As I understand, the Texas Republicans are claiming that the vote started before midnight, making their passage of SB5 valid and eligible for Rick Perry's signature. Though it will undoubtedly be challenged in court, there was not clear cut victory here.

so it was perhaps premateure when i ran onto the floor of the texas legislature al fresco at midnight shrieking "SB DEEZNUTS, MAWFUGGAZZZZZZZSSSSSSSSsssss!!!" and making obscene gestures, up to and including pantomiming becoming impregnated and then performing an abortion on myself while "motorboating" the air

i almost did that tomahawk thing where you make the low chanting noise and bend your raised arm at the elbow in a hypnotic chopping motion at republicans as i was being forcibly escorted off the floor, but it seemed insensitive, especially with johnny depp already provoking the **** out of native americans right now, so i just did a jaunty hillary clinton-style clap-clap point-point instead

Am to understand that he just engaged in cultural appropriation to play a movie character? And a racist token character in a stupid action serial, to boot? This is sick.

I think Depp's kind of always claimed some sort of Native American ancestory long before he decided he wanted to play Tonto. He just claims not to know which tribe that ancestory leads to.

Like a lot of people whose families have been in the Americas for a long time, I have some (probably about 1/16th, so "some" is being generous) Native American ancestry, but I wouldn't claim to be anything other than a clueless white guy with a dead crow on my head and a stereotypical way of speaking.

Why do people think Rand Paul is a libertarian?

He's against gay marriage, he's against drug legalization, he's against abortion, he's flip-flopped on drones.

And he went on Glenn Beck's show today. where Beck said the DOMA ruling might lead to polygamy, and Paul went beyond that and said it could lead to human-animal marriages  (can a dog legally sign a contract, Paul?)

The comment about 'the thousands of years of marriage" is something Limbaugh broguth up as well. It holds up something I mentioned a few times that Limbaugh and Beck just happened to be owned by Clear Channel, which is owned by Bain Capitol, etc.

Separating humans from animals is something Huckabee threw around when he was running for Prez. Somehow same sex marriage leads to people marrying dogs.

Because he hates poor people and consistently votes to increase their suffering so rich people can have more tax breaks.

I'm trying to figure out why anyone thinks "it's tradition" is a good argument for anything.

Also, remember how there was debate about whether the Immigration Reform should apply to gay couple to or not? Many liberals were thinking of not supporting Immigration Reform unless that was included, and if included it would have poisoned the bill and make it impossible to pass.

With the DOMA/Windsor case, the issue is resolved. Gay immigrants now have the same rights and federal benefits as straight immigrants. The last obstacle to Immigration reform is gone.

It is a safer sounding word. Otherwise they have to assume the title of "bigot".

see, the rest of your post is about a supreme court ruling but then all the sudden at the end here you tack on this bit where you seem to be claiming the majority of white males in the country spontaneously combusted, so im a little confused. do you have more information on this momentous news?

The last obstacle to Immigration reform in the Senate is gone, I meant. This issue was the last one that might mess it up. Now it will probably pass on a rather wide bipartisan basis.

The Senate is finally voting on the Immigration Reform bill, right now. Expected to pass with 2/3rds support, should know the result within twenty minutes.

    EDIT:

    Senate passes Immigration Reform, 68-32
    (all Democrats + 14 Republicans)
