I'm pretty sure he's mocking your position by making its underlying logic explicit.

In an age of safe, effective birth control and abortion, the population could largely "control" itself if policymakers and religious leaders would let it. Somehow I'm not in favor of mass die offs of humans just because they happen to live in the global south.

That's where most of the population growth is taking place so massive die offs will benefit the planet.

I wouldn't worry about it. A viral pandemic will take us out long before we hit the 3-degree Celsius mark.

The only questions is whether or not it will be man-made.

It's more a failure of morality than anything else. Anyone with an ounce of empathy, compassion and an understanding of right and wrong could never support Trump.

That's not necessarily not narrow-minded to think that way.

Well, I messed that up, but I stand by my point. Trump's election is a moral failure by those who voted for him.

Trump complained about SNL again. So to review, no time to read national security briefings or condemn violence but plenty of time to watch SNL and complain.

I am hoping his unhealthy eating style catches up with him-sooner rather than later.

...and while judging and condemning his voters ten thousand times is certainly satisfying, it will never get them to vote differently in the future.
People voted for Trump because he was the only candidate at that point willing say "You're getting a raw deal, and I'm going to do something about it!"
He lied about what that 'raw deal' was, he lied about doing something about it, he lied about who to blame, he lied about everything else, but that didn't matter.
Even an unsettling share of minority votes went to him, because he recognized and validated their anger in a way that the traditional insiders of both parties couldn't afford to.
Then, by taking advantage of this 'brave' taboo-breaking, he was able to hand over the country directly to the bosses of those traditional insiders. Efficient.
If we're ever going to put an end to this sickening back-and-forth con being run by both parties, where the inevitable end game is Trumpism, we must educate, agitate and organize.

The deepest failure lies with ourselves and our whole country for letting so many on both sides of the aisle stew in unanswered suffering until they were desperate for easy targets to blame.

And I, in this instance, stand with appleseed. This isn't the whole picture, certainly, and many others (including Abadacus just now) have laid out the other things we need to look at. But this is irreducibly a part of it.

I see a lot of apathy across all political leanings, because it's all a sham, right? Then you reap the rewards of that apathy and use it as proof to reinforce your apathy. [face_plain]

Apparently people of all political stripes have gone to the Republican school of behavior patterns. :p

I just watched this happen live on CNN. Jake Tapper show. He asked Kelly Ann Conway Trump's tweets being Presidential. She sat there and said since he's the President Elect then it's Presidential. He then threw Bill Clinton's behavior at her and asked if then that was Presidential since he was President. She then says 'Do you really want me to compare what Clinton did?' to which Tapper replied the point is just because you are President it doesn't make it Presidential. She then says she didn't say that even though she had just said it 30 seconds ago. There was an audience. They chuckled.

Yep. **** like this is why I posted that Trump's immaturity, not his political views/goals/promises is the main reason why I wasn't a Trump supporter.

Even if one disagrees with his populism and socialism politics at least Bernie Sanders told it like it is without insulting others and acting like an immature man-child.

Now Trump did tell the idiots who were going around harassing/attacking certain groups of people to stop doing that on his 60 minutes interview. So I'll give him credit for that. But still he shouldn't have defended the violence during his rallies as that has led to idiots thinking that they can harass/attack others without any repercussions.

Of course we need to acknowledge that yes some claims of hate speech/crime incidents from Trump supporters were made up. But that doesn't negate the fact that there have been people who have actually been harassed and-or attacked. And I blame this all on Trump's "remember the days when we could carry them out on a stretcher" rhetoric.

I got invited to one of the love marches but I was doing something else this weekend. I'm glad the turnout was good.

And Conway needs a civics lesson on checks and balances. The President being able to do whatever the hell he wants without having to answer for it has never been what America is about.

The response to "but Bill Clinton!" should have been "he was impeached, are you ready for that to happen to your boss?"
