Corbyn is right to question the govt's actions , it's part of the opposition's job , they're not meant to be cheerleaders , especially since Blair's military adventures .

Yeah, but Corbyn's 'old left' mentality on moral equivalence does him no favours.

Yes given his ill-considered photo ops of the past, and old guard Marxist left allegiances, he looks like yesterday's man.

Ironically enough, I mean, given that he is.

    Was an extraordinary debate on anti-Semitisim in Parliament yesterday with powerful speeches from Luciana Berger MP and John Mann MP;

    Nearly two years ago:

    Make Parliament Sovereign again!

    Nearly two years later:

Government: What happens if Parliament says we should stay in the Customs Union? Screw 'em, we're leaving it no matter what they say.

This is a debate that has lasted since 1910.

If the House of Lords was elected, their overruling wouldn't be a problem. Hopefully, we get a Senate out of this mess.

You don't want that. Lords do some incredibly important work that transcends the limits of electoral politics and you would lose that if they were elected. Moreover, we've had situations here where the Tories won majorities in 2004 in both houses and you need to avoid that to create some friction in policy. Right now, like having HRH as head of state, you have a House that cannot be subjected to the muck and filth of an election cycle and therefore is somewhat above those short termist controls. Unlike the monarch, they can do something about it.

Would be interesting to see how much of that is racists and xenophobes emboldened by the Brexit vote to go after immigrants...

Oh it could be the surging violence in London, several terrorist attacks last year and government removing stop and search.........

There's certain areas in London apparently where carrying knives amongst young people has become incredibly prevalent , and feuds between gangs , but it seems not the old-fashioned concept of gangs , insults get traded on social media and escalate .

It seems ridiculous that after Tony got rid of the Hereditary's we're now stuck with a House made up of patronage, cronies political failures, has-been's, never were's and crooks...

The removal of the Hereditary Peers should have been followed through to it's logical conclusion which is a second house that is 80% elected and then the other 20% made up of specialists in certain fields who can bring an outside perspective to things like science, medicine etc.

But perlesssssse don't call is anything as "vulgar" as a "Senate" [face_laugh]

    I'm not sure about Labour's slogan :

"For the many , Not the few "

I know what it's meant to mean but the "few" is usually synonymous with minorities . Or maybe I'm overthinking it .

I suspect Javid is in with a great chance of succeeding Theresa May in 2020. The only thing that counts against him is whether he can actually survive his time at the Home Office...

Local elections on Thurs should be interesting. I don't think there are any in my area though.

    Yeah, we're not voting either.

There is a selection of mayoral elections, too.

    I'm voting Thursday

UKIP are going heavy on the leafleting in my area too, I've so far taken great pleasure in asking for a few from the local racists as they walk around posting them so I can hand out to mates and then binning them as they walk down the drive.

I'm in quite a solid labour ward which pleases me as both UKIP and Conservatives struggle here. UKIP were quite strong at one point so their demise is most gratifying and probably explains their heavy presence currently
