Here you can discuss any ship you've designed or created. Give as much detail as possible and avoid doing things like:

1,000,000,000 hugh SSD put with 100 DS with 1,000,000 super lasers!!!!!! W00t!

That's not what we are going for.

Just discuss ship desgins of yours and of others and design idea's and feedback on other's designs. Any redundant or off topic post will be delt with by a mod.

    Have fun!

The Rolsand YB-26c Wolatarian Interstellar Bomber

    Type: Interstellar Heavy Bomber
Power plants: four TR-976 Till-Ran, 3,000 hp, Convertible Scram/Nuclear engines
Performance: In atmosphere- 620 kph at sea level; Scram jet max. alt. 120,000 feet. Top sub-light speed- 56,000 kph
Weights: Empty 67,572 lb; Max take off weight 108,027
Dimensions: span 150 feet; length 121 feet; height 25 feet; wing area 4,566 feet
Armament: four 3 inch halogen, liquid cooled, anti-ship lasers; 4,000 lb of bombs or rockets in belly and wing racks

During the start of the Spika Wars, the Wolatarian navy needed a bomber that could fly out to deep space targets without a carrier. The result was Rolsand Aerospace?s RS-99, or the YB-26. Three variants were made from this basic platform. The ?b? model had larger engines and a larger bomb bay than the ?a? model, and the ?c? model had a smaller bombay, but instead an electronic warfare station to jam any fighters radar and sensors. The bomber proved effective early in the war, untill the Spika XF-189 fighters came on the scene, then the bomber proved too slow and was quickly replaced with smaller fighter/bombers. Production ended near the end of the war. by that time 2,354 of these bombers had been built including proto-types.

The Wolatarian's are an alien of my design. Big, spike covered, catapiller things. They are in the stone age in a way.

Lol, i drew the ship shown by join-t-s. Our loved flying-can-of-garbage called Ice-Blaze.

    It had these cool gadgets:
Slighty improved Shields, powered by a fision reactor. The fision reactor is placed over one of the bedrooms... but, what's a bit of radiation when you have a TIE following you?? Unfortunately i think our PCs are going to suffer a cancer or something.
A very confortable pilot cabin... the cabin can rotate, in some way.
    A fine design.
Some strange and dangerous modifications in the core fusion reactor and the main engines.
Pieces of starfighters engines are used to maneuver.
And the holes in the hull are all patched :) .

Damn, it is better than any ISD, x-wing fighter or anything you can imagine!

    Dragon-Class Light Cruiser:
    Class: Corvette
Cost: Not Available for Sale (Cost to build: 5,650,500 Credits)
Size: 65 M Long, Head to Tail
    Crew: Minimum 1, Optimum 7
    Passengers: 4
    Cargo Capacity: 150 Metric Tons
    Consumables: 1 year
    Hyperdrive: x1 (backup x8)
    Sublight Speed: 90 SBL
Shields: Same as Nebulon B Frigate
    Hull: Same as Corellion Gunship
    Weapons:
    2 Turbolasers, Forward Firing
    1 Tractor beam, Forward Firing
2 Medium Ion Cannons- Forward and Sideways Firing
1 Concussion Missile Launcher- Rear and Sideways Firing

    Other: Incredibly sophisticated Maneuvering System

The Dragon Class Light Cruiser looks exactly like its namesake, a Dragon. It is Highly Maneuverable due to the Maneuvering Fins, Lateral thrusters, and a whole slew of other, Maneuvering Boosting, equipment. The head contains the 2 Turbolasers and the Tractor Beam. The beams rarely miss due to the ability of the ?Neck? to move about 35 Degrees either way. The ion Cannons are mounted on turrets below the wings, so both can fire forward and one can fire on either side. The tail is what makes this craft distinct. It can move almost 60 Degrees any way and contains the Concussion Missile Tube. The minimum crew can fire nothing but the forward facing Turbolasers, and cannot move the head or tail. At optimum crew each gun has one gunner; there is a captain/pilot, and an engineer. The main cargo bay in is the belly of the dragon, and can contain one Shuttle if emptied, however, it is normally used for the regular cargo that can be shown to customs agents. There are special, sensor shielded area?s in the center of the ship in which to smuggle the more illicit cargo.

    Wyrm-Class Battleship:
    Class: Capital
    Cost: Not Available for Sale
Size: 1400 M Long, Head to Tail.
    Crew: 33,137
    Passengers: 16,863 Troops
    Cargo Capacity: 34,750 Metric Tons
    Consumables: 4 years
    Hyperdrive: x1 (backup x4)
    Sublight Speed: 50 SBL
Shields: Better than ISD 3 (16% Better)
Hull: Same as MC 80 (weaker than ISD)
    Weapons:
    30 Heavy Turbolasers, firing forward
    25 Turbolasers, firing forward
10 Heavy Turbolasers on either side
    5 Turbolasers on either side
    10 Heavy Turbolasers, Rear Firing
    10 Turbolasers Rear Firing
20 Turbolasers Point defense (Able to hit Fighters)
5 Heavy Tractor beams (Forward Firing)

    Totals:
    50 Heavy Turbolasers
    60 Turbolasers
    5 Heavy Tractor Beams
    115 Total Guns

    Other: Maneuvering system

The Wyrm- Class Battleship is the next logical step up using the movable Head/Tail Combination. A little smaller than an ISD the Wyrm carries stronger shields, faster Sublight Engines, and a better maneuvering package than an ISD III while having a weaker hull, a few less weapons, and much less Cargo Space. It looks much like a larger version of the Dragon class but has spines on it?s back (the sideways Firing Turbolasers are mounted here), spines all the way down it?s tail (Rear Firing Weapons), and it?s mouth opens containing it?s true firepower (Forward firing Heavy Turbolasers (A very useful tactic, which the ship was originally designed around, is to hold a ship with the tractor beams while keeping up a consistent Fire from the Heavies in the Mouth, usually destroying the ship in short order due to localized damage.). Capable of carrying a 24 Fighters (12 Less than an ISD) the Wyrm is a dangerous ship to reckon with.

    Cost: Not Available for Sale
    Size: 13 M long
    Crew: 1
    Passengers: None
    Cargo Capacity: 62 Kilograms

2 Heavy Laser Cannons (Forward Firing, Fire-Linked)
2 Laser Cannons (Forward Firing, Fire-Linked)
1 Light Tractor Beam Projector (Forward Firing)
2 Proton Torpedo Launchers (Forward Firing, Fire-Linked)

    Other: Maneuvering system

The Wyrmling is another Variation on the Dragon-Class line. Keeping up with the high Speed, High maneuverability line, as well as mobile head (though no mobile tail on this one) it is the Figh

Will crush anything as big as an ISD II or smaller, like wood in a woodchipper

"Ma Rooka Lay" (I'm running late)
Unique. This ship was cobbled together from parts of other ships by master engineer Ei-neee, a Jawa that escaped from his native planed by stowing away on a freighter he was trying to strip/steal. A rodian explorer named Nee'toh bought it, then had to hire Ei-neee as engineer because it was mostly built to accomodate Jawa height.

    Class: Ugly transport
Cost: Hiring Ei-neee to be engineer and repair
    Size: 22 meters L, 6M tall, 5M wide
    Crew: 2 (Pilot & engineer)
    Passengers: 4
    Cargo Capacity: 10 Metric Tons
    Consumables: 5 weeks
    Hyperdrive: x1 (backup x18)
    Sublight Speed: 2d

    Hull: 2d
    Maneuverability: 3d
    Weapons:
    2 Lasers, front sides.
    FC: 1d
    Dam: 2d
Can be linked to fire forward
    FC: 2d

I invented the Archangel space superiority starfighter. Originally, I designed it to be yet another over-the-top munchkin-ship, yet I toned it down...somewhat.

The base ship was a Tiny ship, mounting two heavy laser cannons, one assault laser cannon, a pair of ion cannons, and a pair of missile launchers. In addition, the engines were the best money could buy; the hull was maxed; the shields were heavy enough to require the "double construction point" rules, and came with backup generators for faster regeneration; it had a .5 primary hyperdrive and x5 backup hyperdrive; it possessed cargo space enough to load some extra things, should the pilot ever come across it (say, a crystal-based cloaker?), a hypertransceiver for moderate interstellar communications, and on and on.

I didn't use the "max emplacement points" guidelines given in Starships of the Galaxy, obviously, with my excuse being that it was pre-revised and obviously I could use it as a guideline but not the be-all end-all.

The scary thing? The ship was just the "basic model". Writing a story around it, I had every character who bought one make it completely insane, in one form or another.

And they wonder why us d6'ers don't like d20...

OK, if this is a tiny ship, where are you finding the room to mound all of this stuff? No starfighter has a backup hyperdrive.
I can't comment on the rest, as I don't have a copy of the rules handy, but this sounds like a munchkin fest.

I refer you to Champions Rules about insane character ideas. Just because you can do something doesn't make it a good idea.

That's where you're wrong. After all, anything is possible with enough money.

I mean, most starfighters go for around a quarter million credits, IIRC. This one cost something like eight million.

$ doesn't help you violate the laws of physics. This stuff still takes up room.
I don't care how much more expensive it was, such a ship wouldn't be allowed in my campaign, or one run by anyone I know.

    "violate the laws of physics"

Oh. You don't play with any starships, then? Sounds tricky to me. How do you travel between planets?

This is sci-fi. No, wait--it's space fantasy.

Your argument reminds me of those people in D&D who scream "women shouldn't be as strong as men!" in a world where fireballs are slung around and 100-ton lizards can fly without magical aid.

Well, if it's space fantasy, why would your fighter need a backup hyperdrive?

Fighters are designed to have the least ammount of surplus equipment. They are expendable offensive or defensive weapons platforms. A backup hyperdrive is not something they would have. Even the capital scale fighters like the Blastboat & B-wing do not have backup hyperdrives. Now, if something that large doesn't have a backup hyperdrive, what purpose does it serve on a dinky little fighter? Many freighters don't have backup hyperdrives, and they have a minimum of 8x the mass of an x-wing.

About the only thing I could see maybe working, is to have a hyperdrive in the ship (maybe a x8 or whatever the d20 equiv is) and a detatchable drive pod or ring with a x1 hyperdrive.

    But that's just me.

    What purpose does it serve?

    How about...a backup hyperdrive.

The guy who commissioned the protoype might simply have had ten million credits and not known what to do with them, so he put everything he could on to the machine. ("Sure, sure, throw in the plush leather seats and the holo-player with fifteen speakers!") He might simply be cautious, or he could be all-out paranoid. But there's nothing remotely wrong or stupid about a personal, customized fighter having a backup hyperdrive. When you consider it, there are only two reasons starfighters or light transports--which are easily the most delicate of any combat-ready ships, and thus would have a greater chance of damage to the primary hyperdrive--would not have backup hyperdrives. The first is is cost; the military, to keep costs down, does everything by going to the lowest bidder and by mass producing. The second is that starfighters are most often accompanied by a carrier of some sort.

However, in the case of a personal starfighter, even someone who could afford an 8.5 million credit starfighter probably wouldn't buy a transport (or even a small capital ship) for carrying it for the reason that in the case of said starfighter, it would be extraneous unless he bought a warship. In effect, he could spend another twenty million or so on a properly armed, armored, and shielded carrier, as well as the cost of paying the crew. Or he could give it a top-of-the-line hyperdrive (and a backup--might as well!) for a fraction of that cost.

The ship itself has still never seen the light of gaming day. I'm still kicking it around and hoping Wizards puts out a revised book for starships. And wondering how the guy would handle the legal questions of the weaponry his ship possesses.

As for hyperdrive speeds, you roll your Astronavigate check. Then, there's a chart in the core rulebook showing the time between various areas of space. Going from a Core system to a Core system, for example, could take as little as six hours. Then, you take that time and modify it by using the hyperdrive modifier. So an x1 hyperdrive (which X-Wings come with, standard, in d20) would make the aforementioned trip in 6 hours. A stock YT-1300 would make the trip in 12 hours, having an x2 hyperdrive. The Falcon, with a x.5 hyperdrive, would do it in 3.

    So, you're sticking a top-of-the-line hyperdrive into a fighter?
Sorry, but that doesn't make sense.
If someone is going to invest that kind of money, why not buy a larger ship that can better take care of itself, already has a proven frame, and maybe even have a crew of experts to help?

Now, as a single, experimental fighter, the ideas aren't totally without merrit, but as a production run, well, as you pointed out, no-one would buy it because it's too damned expensive, and pilots are cheap.

And I still think that "Tiny" is too small to have a built-in backup hyperdrive. Look at the specs for the x-wing. The hyperdrive isn't just the size of a backpack, it's huge. fitting a second one in there???

Look what adding a hyperdrive did to Vader's TIE fighter.

Yes, but that's a huge, powerful x1 hyperdrive. I mean, you can't even get x5 hyperdrives as your primary, IIRC; I think the slowest for your primary going by Starships of the Galaxy was x4. Likely, they'd be smaller and similar.

And to your other point. Well, why do rich people who don't do graphic or game design buy 4.5 Ghz or whatever computers? Partially in preparation for when it will be needed sometime in the future, and partially for bragging rights.

It's like the 3DFX tagline. "So much power, it's almost ridiculous!"

So isn't a x.5 going to have to be bigger & more powerful than a x1? And that's the primary. adding a second drive on top of that AND calling the ship "tiny"? I don't think so.

I'm gonna have to go with Magellan here... that much stuff shouldn't be packed into a "tiny" fighter. Hyperdrives take up space, cannons take up power...

Give a ship a single gimmick, not ten.

The ships in my campaign were

The Coral Princess: a YV-666 transport with a coral colour scheme

Another Chance: An alderaanian dreadnaught receovered by the Alliance and converted into an Assault Frigate like so many others were, the only difference being a nose cone and hull segments of molecularly bonded alloy, making it super tough and able to take a pouinding a ship of its size normally could not.

Tiny is roughly X-Wing size. I think officially it's up to 15 meters in the largest dimension long. Tiny is, IIRC, Gargantuan, using character/vehicle size.

There's a lot more space, even in a larger starfighter, than most people expect.

Lastly, one word: miniaturization. Consider the change in cell phones in two years.

These fighters aren't even a gleam in someone's eye until NJO. The first X-Wings had x1 hyperdrives. You don't think that in 25 years or more, hyperdrives might have gotten a little smaller? A tiny bit lighter?

Of course, this is Star Wars, where ten years passed in the EU before some authors got the idea that technology might have advanced in that period.

This is star wars, technology had barely shifted in the previous thousands of years.

This is Space Opera. It's not techno-fantasy. It's not how big your gun is, it's where you stick it!

Well, I had gone through more designs for the Reaper's Fury then I can list, but after the SW Gamer came out witht he Pics of Starships, Mainly the Couragous, I new how the Fury would finish life lol

Craft: Heavily Modified Corellian Engineering Corp YZ-650
    Class: Transport
    Cost: 175,000 Credits
    Size: Small (27 Meters)
Crew: 1 + 1 Gunner (Astromech can function as gunner)
    Passengers: 5
    Cargo Capasity: 30 Metric Tons
    Consumables: 1.5 Months
    Hyperdrive: x1 (backup: x 15)
    Max Speed: Ramming
Powerplant: Sarylcorp Vix Multiflux Reactor (Capital Scale Output)

    WEAPON: Twin Laser Cannon
    Fire Arch: Turret (top)
    Attack Bonus: +9
    Damage: 4d10 x 2
    Range Modifiers: pb +0
    s +0
    m/l n/a

    WEAPON: Heavy Turbolaser (x2)
    Fire Arch: forward
    Attach Bonus: +7
    Damage: 4d10 x 5
    Range Modifiers: pb +0
    s +0
    m -2
    l -4

Note: Turbolasers have ability to be set at partial power. When leveled off at Strfighter Levels, the Cannons appear to rapid fire. Increasing the Chances of hitting fast moving targets such as fighters. When Set for full power, the Weapons equal the firepower of any capital Ship Turbolaser. But the Drain on the power capasitors requires 20 to 30 seconds to recharge to full power.

The Ship has also been know to carry up to 8 Charges. These charges are interchangeable, and fitted for mission profiles. They are Dumb weapons, and simply drop free and detonate.

The Ship is also equiped with a modifiable Transponder. The primary ID tag is of the Reaper's Fury, a Known Rebel Allied ship, and is wanted by the Empire for Crimes commited against them. The Second, Is the Raptor's Claw, a suspected Pirate and Mercenary ship, Not currently wanted by any government. The Third setting is programable for missions, but the ID is not as secure as the two hardwired ID Tags

The Reaper's Fury is the Personal Ship Of Erc Vortan. Bounty Hunter and Rebel Intelligence Agent. The Ship was custom built for him at Star Forge Station. A Independant Hidden Ship Yard. Vortan designed the layout himself after several engagements with a Pirate group. The Pirates were using Modified Freighters that carried Captial Scale Turbo Lasers. The heavy firepower proved quite formidable. When the time came for a ship of his own, he Used the same base weapons for the design. The engineers took two Heavy Turbolasers from a Nebulan B Cruiser and build the YZ-650 around them. Since the ship was also custom built, not modified, it allowed for inclusion of a Bigger power core, and modification of the Basic Turbolaser. There now is a partial power setting that allows firing of the weapons at Starfighter scale power readings.

When fired at full power it take 20 to 30 Seconds for the capasitors to recharge for the next shot. And parital power drain from the Twin laser Cannon.

You can see the pics of the Ship here: Reaper's Fury
