Matt Cassel is probably a bad example. :p

Cassel, I think, is an example of a good backup. But he should stay a backup. He should be the guy you go to for a few weeks while your star is recovering. He should not be a starter, I think his reign with the Chiefs has made that fairly clear. But he is a decent backup to have, as I'm sure those who have had to suffer through the likes of Caleb Hanie, Charlie Batch, or anyone the Arizona Cardinals have trotted out this year might agree.

The only bright spot could be Troy's return. I don't have a good feeling about it.

Does Polamalu even play anymore, or is he just brought out once or twice a year to take a lap around the field, fall over, and go back on the injury report?

Out side of the last game how many starts has Batch had? And his time with the Lions does not count. [face_not_talking]

Wasn't he the QB during those four games Ben was suspended for last year?

Maybe I will check. He's just not that good though. It was 2010 and maybe he is better with the Steelers but really I mean he has not had that many starts with them and he was not that good with the Lions though it is the Lions and...I don't know I just don't see the Steelers winning with out Ben.

Dennis Dixon was the starting QB but he got injured so Batch made 2 starts in that time,

I read four starts though I could have miss read it. Yeah you're right two starts one win and one lose.

Someone needs to do the math, but I'm betting that the Steelers have the oldest average QB age in the league. If they're going to keep two backups, can't they at least bother to pick up someone young, and with upside? ("Hey, you know how Big Ben keeps getting hurt? We've got to make sure our backups are as old and mediocre as possible!") Or are they in some kind of arms race with the Ravens to see just how old their key players can get?

The Chiefs have a bunch of crappy young QBs. You're welcome to them.

They did sign a relative rookie (Heyer, Hoyer?[face_dunno]), to be the third stringer around the time Ben got hurt, but they're still sticking with Batch for some reason.

Rookie? Hoyer was the backup to Brady for the last 3 years.

I suppose he is only 27. He's more of a rookie than Brandon Weeden.

Apparently a Chiefs player just committed suicide at the team's facility this morning. It's just breaking news now and there are no detail about who, although they are investigating another site that is apparently related.

I hope it's not one of those deals where he killed his family at home first and then came to the practice facility. :(

EDIT: Yep, now they're saying it was his girlfriend.

Supposedly it's Jovan Belcher and he killed his girlfriend at home before driving to the facility and killing himself.
