Ray Guy is in
That is just awesome. The Pro Football HOF is just awesome, everything about them and the way they go about their business. Sure, I was fired up about Art Monk for a few years, but he eventually got in there.
MLB pales in comparison, again.
That's because at least the Pro Football HOF has rules that at least ensure there are inductees every year, which I think can partly take bias out of the equation (by and large; I doubt you could eliminate bias voting completely,) whereas 75% is the threshold for the Baseball HOF and the writers can vote their bias to their hearts content (which is why you have voters saying no to anybody who played in the Steriod Era - implicated or not - and writers selling their votes to Deadspin). If Baseball had rules similar to the Football HOF, then maybe embarrassments like last year's total shut out with no inductees via the BBWA, wouldn't happen.
I love seeing Jim Kelly being the happiest guy in the room for Andre Reed.
Guys. I just crashed the NFL Honors.
LOL @ warren sapp
I suppose it's time for my prediction:
Seahawks 27, Broncos 24.
Yay! Ray Guy! Good for you man! He was the first football card I ever got my hands on - made me a Raiders fan for life!
Congrats also to Michael Strahan - an all around great guy.
And go Broncos!!!!!!!!!!!!
Drove by MetLife Stadium last night. Probably the closest I'll ever get to the super bowl.
Juliet316 - how do you feel about Cousins being traded, maybe for a 2nd or 3rd round pick? PFT is saying that Cousins is open to the deal, now that Gruden has named RG3 the undisputed starter.
On one hand, you get a chance to upgrade secondary and/or receiving corps in one of the deepest/most talented drafts in 10 years. On the other hand, you have a young QB with one good season, and one bad one - with an injury history. Nice to have the insurance, yes?
I say take the trade now while cousins has high value.
I agree. Kyle Shanahan may go to bat for him in Cleveland- best case scenario, they pick up the Indy 1st from Richardson deal.
The Deadspin article on Ray Guy from 2012 was just unbelievably on point.
We're potentially going to see the same crap in 5 years for Mariano Rivera because "closers" aren't "real baseball players"...
I think that's highly unlikely. Rivera spent his career in the most visible market in the world and won multiple championships.
Kluwe's heart is in the right place, but he is so irritating in his methods.
yea... i don't see how rivera doesn't get in. he was too indisputably good. and pretty much universally respected, if not loved.
definitely glad to see that class of guys get in, all of them well deserved.
My contribution to the Superbowl party I'm attending. Not quite my "Go USA!" Cake from the Olympics (where I actually pulled off the whole "cut a piece and it looks like the US flag), but my level of effort goes up considerably when women's soccer is involved. This is NFL level effort.
Win or lose I'll have an interesting walk home tonight through the University District of Seattle, ha.
who else is getting excited?
I'm stoked!! Not that I really care either way who wins, but still, it's the freaking Superbowl!
ROFL at Joe Namath's faux pas.
Edit: Wuuuuuuut? Safety on the first play? WTF
oh god... the double ford commercials was just stupid.
and i can't say i'm even remotely looking forward to listening to aikmen and buck... not my favorite commentators out there. oh well. can't have everything.
wow... what a start to the game...
That was the best thing I've ever seen.
What the hell was that.
Man, this game could not have started any better.
Sent from my iPhone 5... take that, Wocky!
