TBH I always thought the UR were ignored even before Disney. I remember Zahn setting the UR in Vision of the Future, with 1000's of threats, thinking at the time that it sounded really interesting and there was lots for Authors to play with there . Then Del-Rey came in, pretty much ignored it and used the Vong as the the threat and the Unknown Regions were pretty much consigned to history.

I thought the Unknown Regions in the old EU were ripe for a ton of Star Trek/Farscape-ish stories. The story of Thrawn and his successors carving out the Empire of the Hand, alone, would've easily supplied enough material to last as long as the X-wing series did.

    Alack and alas.

Except when you know they actually had people go there as one of the main plot points of the NJO ;)

Let's not forget that it gave rise to WOTC's swan song, the beautiful RPG supplement The Unknown Regions.

QFT. In the space of just one movie, she goes from being the wise, all-knowing librarian, to being proven completely, utterly incorrect. :p

I never get why that quote of hers is always wheeled out when the whole point of the film was she was not correct and the archives not as infallible as she blindly insisted. To me, she was the Flat Earther, who was there to show just how arrogant the Jedi had become in their own navel gazing.

I get the sense that her quote is accurate for there not being a large area of the galaxy marked "unknown regions." It's the whole "known unknowns" and "unknown unknowns" thing, her quote suggests the latter, but the unknown regions is the former.

Again, I do think it's fair to say that Lucas didn't believe the UR to exist. That just doesn't matter now.

It didn't matter then, either. :p

    Unicorns don't exist either

I don't have a point, or if I do I don't know what it is.

Yes. This whole 'inane posting' that has became vogue in the last week or so is less than impressive.

Prove it. Or do you dispute the evidence that is right in front of you?

timothy Zahn has plans to make a legends novel that is only chiss (NO KNOWN REGIONS) but disney may what him to just make it canon (same story just switched to canon)
you can read about it here
    • He has stated that he's written a story detailing how Baron Soontir Fel leaves Imperial service and joins the Chiss Ascendancy, but it has yet to be published.
    • In a Facebook Q/A Zahn stated that he has a trilogy project to pitch to LFL/Disney, with one book heavily featuring Thrawn and the Chiss, the second involving Mara Jade preventing an assassination attempt on Vader, and where the third book would also be the third book in the Hand of Judgment series. The proposed series title is The Maestro Trilogy. At this time, this possibility and all of the above seem unlikely, following the announcement of Star Wars Legends. The announcement rendered the Expanded Universe largely non-canon, including characters such as Thrawn and Mara Jade Skywalker, as well as the general conception of events following the film Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, as those events will be covered in a new, re-booted canon featured in Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens.
