Ted Cruz claimed victory. His future is made. Sure he'll run for President. And just like Gingrich he knows he won't get into the White House but he'll have such a wonderful future as a political guest/mouthpiece afterwards. Huckabee got a tv show, and Gingrich is on CNN with a round table panel. Michael Steele is on MSNBC.

Huckabee has been slamming Cruz, though. He's a religious wacko, but he's a pragmatist, and aside from social stuff, not as bad as the kamikazes.

This was totally unnecessary, and totally predictable. De-fund the President's signature legislation that had been held up by national election and a conservative SC Chief Justice while holding only a majority in the lower body of Congress? Sure, why not. History will forget it, and voters may too by this time next year, but it was all so stupid.

Stupid for everyone who isn't Ted Cruz. He's as full of it as Limbaugh and Beck and Coulter etc. And he'll make lots of money for it and retain lots of fame for it.

Looks like Cruz has given up on this battle, will not filibuster the emerging Senate deal. Looks like this thing will pass.

Oh, I wouldn't get too bent over it. By the end of the day President Obama and everyone other politician above ground will probably be claiming "victory" as well.

Obama does deserve victory. The only changes to Obamacare to come out of this whole thing are:

    1. A re-statement of already existing requirements for income verification

    2. Delaying a tax that major labor unions were the most upset about (I'm still trying to see if even this is in the final deal)

Obama's either crying tears of frustration or laughing insanely right about now.

To American parents (at least I think his Cuban-born father was a U.S. citizen by then; Wikipedia is unhelpful). George Romney ran for President and he was born in Mexico to American parents.

Eh. At least that means a Republican didn't get it. Not a Booker fan.

Shutdown to end. Default likely to be averted.

But Republicans are already getting ready for "next time"... which is only a couple months from now.

House Democrats offered to help Boehner keep his Speakership, in exchange for deal:

The Senators were all the usual suspects too. Who, thanks to gerrymandering, are probably assured their jobs in the mid-terms next year. Not too terribly surprised at McConnell's actions. Reid probably let it slide in order to get his vote and all but the votes of the 18 Republicans that voted no.

Senators are removed from gerrymandering, no? Its a statewide election, so the borders are fixed.

Double post because my edit time ran out.

I know McConnell's being primaried already, but does anybody else think that the Tea Party is already plotting to primary any of the Republicans who maybe up for reelection next year, who voted 'Yes' for avoiding default tonight?

If I had to guess? Charlie Dent, one of the two members of the House Republicans that actually went on the record to vote against Boehner's crazy proposals as being too conservative. He was also the only guy besides Peter King that was at all vocal or consistent in their criticism of the Tea Party.
