    I enjoy listening to Dan Carlin's 'Common Sense' political commentary podcast, and in a recent episode he talked about block grants. He, a fiscal conservative, is convinced block grants are a sham, but I don't understand why.

    The new Graham Cassidy health care bill turns Obamacare into a system of block grants I think, and I'm not too sure why that is a bad idea.

    I definitely don't claim to be an expert on the finer points of health care, but this seems like a good idea to me. It seems like the states can now personalize their own version of obamacare and tailor it to their own state.

    What do you guys think?

    States running health care is not a bad idea. I am a supporter of single payer and think the state governments should be in charge of its administration.

    The aspects of Graham-Cassidy that are terrible:

    --insurance companies being allowed to charge more (or deny coverage?) for people with pre-existing conditions, including pregnancy and childbirth

    --insurance companies being allowed to institute lifetime caps on coverage

    --insurance companies/employers being allowed to refuse mental health coverage

    --insurance companies/employers being allowed to refuse contraception coverage (it is *because* I am not a fan of abortion that I want contraception covered for all)
