Actually, I've been far cheerier at funerals, because most of them revolved around the natural occurrence of elderly people dying. Sad, but nothing to despair about.

Our political situation, on the other hand, revolves around a far-right dominating party intent on pushing us to the brink of nuclear conflagration, an "opposition" party that is thoroughly devoid of vision, initiative or principles (their shining light, whom they despise, isn't even a @#$%ing Democrat), a corporate media that does everything but inform people...oh, and climate change.

Hey, I'm fighting, and still coddle and sing to my dog, but half of the time, I am tempted to slit my wrists.

First link is about how the House voted to ease bank restrictions, basically voting to bring about another crisis like in 2008, because no one saw this coming.

The classic shift from "let's not regulate companies" over the amount of dangerous contaminants they allow into our drinking water to "let's not do any science that might suggest that those contaminants are dangerous."

Back in the 1970s and 80s we mocked the Soviet Union for this kind of thing.

Regulations Bad, therefore no investigation into the dangers of industrial effluents

Guns Good, therefore no formal epidemiological investigation into the public health consequences of gun prevalence

Unfettered Capitalism Good, therefore climate change must not be real

and so on. It's delightful what we've become.
