Miller did his job, and Team USA had enough offense to win. I'm sure that Zaz must be wondering if the Hockey Gods are crazy, though. [face_flag]

I do have a special spot in my heart for Dany Heatley though (ON WISCONSIN!) so I was happy he scored a goal.

    SIEVE! SIEVE! SIEVE!

Great game for USA. Brodeur will come back like he always does. Just makes the road a little bit harder for team Canada.

Great hockey win for the USA, though I only saw the last few seconds or so :)

Congrats to Sweden. From what I understand they would probably have the easiest path to the gold medal game based on the standings. Russia and Canada would play each other in the quarters, I think.

But we will meet Russia or Canada in the semifinals, and that will be a really tough game. I'd say that the US or the Czech Republic have it easier on their half of the tournament.

    I blame ESPN. :p

I thought that either Matthew Barnaby or Barry Melrose said that Canada and Russia would play each other, and Sweden wouldn't until the medals. That's what I get for listening to ESPN for hockey information.

Russia and Canada plays the quarterfinal, the winner goes on to play the semifinal against Sweden or Slovakia. I don't think Norway will stand up against Slovakia, but we shouldn't be sure that Sweden manages to win their quarterfinal.

Tonight's the women's semifinals US-Sweden. In Torino Sweden managed to beat the US after a penalty shoot out, but I don't think that will happen this year. To be honest the Swedish team hasn't developed at all since then, even if they have gotten more resources. Personally I don't think the quality of women's ice hockey is good enough to qualify for the Olympics, especially when you compare to other sports that aren't in the games. My pet peeve is the fact that women's ski jumping is still banned, eventhough there are many more competitors worldwide, and they are much closer to men when it comes to results. (as a comparison the women world champion would have place in the top 20 in the men's world championships, nothing you could say that a female ice hockey player would manage)

But woman's hockey won't improve unless more people play.

I think they should do a short round-robin and then let the two best teams do a best of five until the rest catch up.

I agree about women's ski-jumping, though. What's the deal with that? It's not a dangerous as some of the others.

It's simply a question of a certain kind of men not liking that women can do the same thing as men, since it would diminish the "coolness" of the sport. It doesn't help that the IOC president Rogge is personally very much against women's ski jumping.

From what I've read he cites some study(s) that state ski jumping is detrimental to a woman's reproductive system.

    o_O Interesting.

I'm not generally a fan of ice dancing, but Davis and White's dance to Phantom of the Opera... wow. Just wow. Not sure who that was singing, but great music and an incredible dance. I hope that wins.

Yeah, great performance... but not quite enough to beat Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir on home ice. Beautiful stuff all around. I love any ice skating, partly 'cause I fantasize about being out there, as I enjoy skating myself and took lessons for a few years when I was young enough for it to stick. :D

The Russians didn't win, which is strange.

Though not as strange as their costumes.

I am watching the rerun now, so I can't comment on any specifics, but I still think that even with the new judging system there is still a lot of national/tactical judging in figure skating.

    Russians still medaled, though.

The Canadian pair was good, certainly, but I didn't think their final dance was as good as the Phantom of the Opera one. Scored higher, though.

The costumes were *very* strange, and the men's haircuts stranger.
