My concern is Thornton, Marleau & Heatley, none of them famous for being good when the chips are down.

I feel quite sad for the Canadian alpine team, I don't think I've seen so many injuries in a single team during one season as they have had.

Ugh, Team USA may as well recreate the magic of 1980 and roll with amateurs on the hockey squad, because that roster looks pretty meek, outside of Parise.

I don't think that's true. Stastny, Kane, Ryan, and Kessel are all solid players. Even guys like Kesler, Malone, and Langenbrunner are pretty decent. The defence is their weakness but they're really counting on Miller to steal games and you know what, I wouldn't be surprised if they end up with a medal.

I can't believe what's going on downtown. Apparently, if you have a parking spot, you can say goodbye to it.

I see they're bringing n snow by truck.

Here in 3rd place Salzburg there's white stuff everywhere. Just sayin' [face_whistling] ...

Of course, in Sotschi, there's nothing but an empty dump.

PS I am wearing my Whistler long Sleeve T-shirt today.

And the time difference is actually an advantage this time, since most of the events will take place in the evening/early night here.

I'm not staying up until 6 am for the opening ceremony though.

Btw, who do you think is going to light the Olympic fire? Around here the betting seems to be on Wayne Gretzky.

Potentially devastating news for ski fans -- Lindsey Vonn has a bruised shin and may miss one or even all of the skiing events. Apparently she can't put her boot on without excruciating pain.

Man, that stinks. I really hope that she's able to compete at the games, even if it's not at 100%.

Sure I was hoping that she wouldn't win everything, but by someone else skiing better, not by her not being able to compete at all. Hopefully she will get good enough to ski, even if she might have to skip on the first event.

She may have to freeze the foot and go for it.

Since I live in the Vancouver area, I will say the place is going crazy. Parties everywhere! :D

but not much winter from what I hear.

Well tonight's the night! I'm excited, but I'm not going to watch the opening ceremony. It's between 3 and 6 am here, so I'll just watch the highlights tomorrow instead.

Seems like it's snowing everywhere (in the Northern Hemisphere at least) except Vancouver.

Now it's official that Peter Forsberg is going to carry the Swedish flag tonight. With such a career it's not exactly a surprise.

That is strange that it's not snowing in Vancouver.

Still, the day is here. I'll be flipping between the Pens game and the Opening Ceremonies tonight.

And the first event has already been done, it was the qualification for the ski jumping in the HS106 (small) hill. No surprises there, it looks like the final will be between Ammann and Schlierenzauer, like most competitions this winter.
