I'm looking to move from geocities to anther website. I use straight HTML, and would like a site that allows html and is not like pagebuilder. I need lots of space, as it's an art and writing page, and I don't want my name to be too long. (Though, with www.cjb.net, it mihgt not matter) I want one that has similar options of geocities.

The reason I want to move is that I'm tired of geocities crashing when I get a lot of traffic, or not allowing me to post pictures outside of the domain.

Is there anything you would suggest?

Yeah, I understand about geocities. Brinkster.com automatically resets bandwitdh at midnight if you happen to go over. So, if you sign in the next day, your bandwitdh will be very low.

But it's still a good idea to check the stats so you know when to stop editing and uploading and leave it be untul the next day.

I'd also like to add hosting website Digital-Rayne.net It's mainly for domain names and domain hosting, but the deals that are offered are reasonable. You can customize plans to suit your needs and your billing doesn't change unless you change your plan.

I'm actually thinking about purchasging my own domain, but i need to talk to my parents first and then maybe my brother, for advice.

Geocities sets it within the next hour if things get screwy, so I'm not so worried about that, I was worried about it happening as often as it does.

Yeah, I don't like geocities too much either. It seems whenever I access a geocities page, there has to be a url redirection so there are no bandwitdh problems.

With a good host, (the reason why I liked brinkster because bandwitdh wasn't set by the hour but if it went over, it would automatically be reset at midnight), you wouldn't have to worry about your bandwidth going over. Geocities is screwed up this way. And don't even get me started about their general account uploading...

Well, I'll talk about it anyway. I thought for a nice change, I would host JJSA (Jag and Jaina 'shipper Alliance now As You Wish Goddess fanfic archive) at geocities but I found out very quickly that upload was very limited. I was only able to upload at least 9 files before there was a message that said I didn't have enough space to upload anything more!!!

This is simply ridiculous on so many levels. One, if you sign up for a general free account, you should be able to upload as many files as possible without having to worry about space. I think the reason geocities does this so you'll either buy more space or be convinced to buy a domain.

And now about brinkster, my formerly wonderful host. Bandwitdh is still automatically reset at midnight but now, they have this new policy. It used ti be if you had a free account, there was no popups (I loved this about brinkster) but then they sent out this e-mail to all their general account users:

In order for us to serve you better, we must now start to put pop up ads on all your general accounts and if you want to get rid of them, you have to pay. It really ticks me off. (I was able to find a way around this without having to sign up for a domain by converting all my files to php). But still, everytime I sign in to edit my files and that ad banner comes up about ftp and getting rid of pop up ads, it makes me really mad.

Just droping advice for anyone here who might be thinking of getting hosting over at host.sk. Don't. The whole 29 dolars one-time-only thing seems really nice for a server with PHP and MySQL, but it's not.

I paid for it and about a month later I started getting porn popups on my site. Not only that, but sometimes people couldn't even enter the site at all, or if they entered a forum I had hosted there, there were so many database connection errors that they simply gave up on trying to get in.
