For those of you that don't know, Laurell K. Hamilton is the author of the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series; the Merry Gentry series and the novel Nightseer.

She seems to take much inspiration from Celtic Mythology and various legends, and writes in a very unique way, mixing Fantasy and Horror in equal measures.

    Anyone else read her stuff?

Merry needs to get pregnant, yes, as if she doesn't then her cousin would get the throne and she would be killed. Everyone wants to get her pregnant though.

Anita though is a bit of a Prude :p

Ah, but have you read the spoilers for Anita? [face_mischief]

But yes, I have read both of her series, although not the novel Nightseer. I generally enjoy both series, although I think I prefer the early Anita Blake novels the best. It does seem to be getting a bit annoying (not to mention unrealistic) the way that Anita keeps collecting boyfriends. o_O

Yeah, I live in a slightly annoying place in that I can't get all of the books. I've got the first 5 Anita novels and the first 3 Merry ones.

But supposedly her writing style changed when she got divorced and remarried.

*Waits for Ro to see this :p *

[face_laugh] Well, I wouldn't know anything about her personal life, but I would say that yeah, her writing style changed just a bit. :p

Yeah. I've read a bit of Incubus Dreams, couldn't figure out what it was about.

At least in the Merry books there is a motive behind the madness and sex. Sort of :p

LKH is from my city, and still lives here! I got to meet her once at a book signing, nice but a little snotty.

The older Anita Blake books are the best she's written. The newer ones Anita is too much the slut and there's less purpose to the books, so much less mystery. The Merry books are just sex, sex, sex, blah. Why can't she just say "And we had sex" rather than spend chapters on each encounter? Sorry, that's just been annoying me for quite a while now.

She's certainly an excellent mystery writing, or at least, I think she is, but I wish she would get back to the actual plot of her novels. Sex is fine, but I would rather the whole novel not be sex when I was expecting an actual plot.

Yeah, I enjoyed the first two Merry books, but the third was just boring due to it being nothing but sex.

QFT, if I want just sex, there are tons of porn/romance books out there on paperback. I buy these for mystery and tough female characters, not a whiney, weak Anita which is what she's become lately.

I must get some of the newer ones. In which book does the mystery stuff end and the non-stop smut start?

Blue Moon I think. The first 5 were grand.

Heh, that's where I'm up to. I might just stop there and pretend that the other 7 don't exist then :p

It's tempting to recommend that, but the Edward book is worth it. That was Obsidian (sp) Butterfly. That rocked hard!

I'll just get that then, although I'll probably have no idea what's happening because it's book 8 or something :p

What about Stroke of Midnight, anyone read that yet?

So pretty much the same as Seduced then :p

Oh well, lets hope she gets another emotional shakedown so we get some more mysteries :p

The thing annoying me about the Merry books is that they are moving so slowly and nothing is happening except for a lot of sex. Honestly the whole reason that I'm still reading the Merry series is because I wanted to see the confrontation between her and her uncle like the one between she and Andais. But Stroke of Midnight only moved the story forward by about twenty-four hours. Annoying. [face_plain]

Yeah, Seduced did that as well. So is Stroke about the Goblin Court bit?

If that's the last one, then not really. She basically deals with her aunt the whole book and how to manipulate her better and toss out some evil people in court. Something to do with the police and reporters too.

So pretty short on plot then. Brilliant

I've read all of her works except Nightseer and have to agree that it changed drastically from what she used to do.

A Stroke of Midknight does actually have a plot, though it is sort of annoying how only @4 hours elapses and even some things are left unanswered. But then gain it left me wanting anotehr book.

The Anita Blake Novels are still best. And each of them always has a good plot. Though the Sex is quite ridiculous. In the Merry Gentry series it is explained well...in the Anita books it just sort of started showing up.

I just finished Stroke last night and i enjoyed it because of what about faerie you learn.

so anyone have a specific novel they liked best. I think mine may have been either Circus of the Damned or Lunatic Cafe......I'm a werewolf nut more than i am Vampires....but I enjoy both mixed together so well....
