Since Karen Miller is going to write the Clone Wars novels for the TV series, I thought I'd open up discussion of her other novels on here.

I have only read the Godspeaker books, but found them to be a very interesting Dark Fantasy and Hekat is a fascinating character, as is Vortka and their son Zandakar. What I like is how she has used the difference in language in the novels, there is a remarked difference in the words a character uses when they can speak Mijaki or Etherean.

    Empress of Mijak
    Synopsis
Hekat is sold as a slave and then escapes her captors to become a warrior and then Empress of Mijak, all the while justifying her actions by her belief that she was chosen by God.

    The Riven Kingdom
In far away Etherea, the King is dying and his daughter Rhian, his last remaining child and heir to the throne, fights to uphold her father's wishes and against the plotting of Marlan, Prolate of Etherea.

    Hammer of God
    Synopsis
(This has not been published in the US yet, but has been in Australia)
The armies of Mijak led by Hekat and Dmmitrak are threatening to engulf the world, yet Queen Rhian faces a divided kingdom and unwilling allies who refuse to believe the threat that Mijak poses.

So has anyone read, Kingmaker, Kingbreaker? I'm goingto try to now I've finished Godspeaker

Never heard of her, but the books sound good. Do you know when the third will be published in the US?

    January next year

You could possibly get it through an Aussie bookseller like Galaxy in Sydney, and considering the exchange rate it'll probably be slightly cheaper

    http://www.galaxybooks.com.au/items.asp?id=141791

    Here's there delivery charges

I love going to Galaxy, make a point of going there everytime I'm in Sydney

You could also go into a bookstore and request to have it shipped from Australia ;)

Oh, and Amazon.com won't let me write a review as their entry says it hasn't been published yet.

Reading the first Godspeaker now. It's only called Empress over here though.

And is it just me, or is Hekat one crazy nutcase?

Sort of. I got bored towards the end of Empress. At the beginning, and up until she was Raklion's, it was interesting. After everything that happened with Vortka though, I just got bored.

Riven Kingdom I like a lot better though, so far (I'm 5/6s through).

It becomes far more interesting whren Zandakar gorws up, he's the real hero of the series and is his father's son.

What I like is how Zandakar loves his brother Dmitri unashamedly, yet that so-and-so is simply incapable of love.

If you want to know why, I can tell but it's in the third novel.

I read Hammer of God and I confess myself disappointed. So much buildup and then just... bleh. Useless ending.

There were some good scenes but IMHO a lot of filler and scenes that didn't move the story. What was the point of the armada?

To make the threat seem real?

Though I don't see why she saved both Alisdair and the Duke in the armada yet then killed the Duke in the main battle. Would have been more point if he'd died with the fleet.

Considering the in the UK they're £7.99, so $11.

I'm still thinking back to August though, when all the currecies lined up so nicely (£1 = $2 = 200 yen = ?1.45).

    Damn you economy!
