Burt's idea is better. You get to try a main team out, and with it been friendly you can try other ideas, and with a B team going the next day or day before they can show if they are worth a call to the main team and get some experince along the way.

Sven did ask for some B internationals before this world cup

I just can't understand why Wright-Phillips has been left out. And don't say he hasn't played enough games- Walcott hasn't played any.

Walcott and SWP are two different players one's a striker the other a midfielder so you can't run a direct comparrison between the two.

SWP isn't going as he hasn't played enough this year so Lennon (his direct replacement) is going instead.

This makes perfect sense to me and is a decision i agree with.

The main question is how the hell did Walcott get in the squad ahead of Defoe or Bent?

Walcott has no experience at all in any capacity above championship.
    Bent leading English goal scorer
    Defoe has England experience.

The Walcott choice is a bad move IMO. I do believe he will become a good player though.

However like I have said with Crouch I am prepared to give him a chance. Crouch is on his last gangly legs for me though

I think Sven has made a shrewd move with Walcott.

He's young and ambitious and eager to prove himself - like Rooney was.

He's an unknown, which is a bonus. Think about it. He will train with the England players, so they will know how he plays. But no one else will. None of the opposition will have a clue of what to watch for.

I dunno, something about this makes me think this is a good idea.

The biggest danger is that he could do something stupid and get himself sent off - the danger of youth and inexperience.

I have no issue with Walcott as such and I can see you point Hal but I still think it's a mistake to play a completely untested individual in the World Cup.

If he screws up it could kill his career

Yes it could, but that's his choice.

But on the other hand, look at Beckham. His career was almost destroyed by his sending off against Argentina in 98. Death threats etc etc. But look at how he progressed. Right up to Captain.

A mistake in a tournament or a bad tournament does not mean the end of a career. It's how you deal with it that counts.

Most of the squad is pretty good
Its just up front that is a bit shakey

But Joe Cole can always cover as a second striker if Owen is not immeadiately ready

Did I read in one of the papers that Walcott said his idol was Heskey? I hope he plays better than Heskey.

Then the papers got it wrong as they clearly said he used to run around when he was younger with a Liverpool top on and Heskey's name and number on the back.

If it said it clearly, why did you have to ask whether you read it or not?

Because I checked the papers still lying around here after you posted your statement to re-read the article. Is there a problem with that?

    His idol is Heskey?

Its clear he has bad judgement of what makes a quality player :p
