Who would be, for you, the worst possible choice for a director? Keep in mind I'm talking about legitimate directors who have enough clout and respect that it might be feasible for them to get the job (even if it's a stretch).

Mine would be David Lynch. We'd surely see a pie obsessed Luke having visions of the Black Lodge with a backward-talking Yoda dancing to a smooth baseline...although Yoda already talks somewhat backwards, doesn't he? May be it's not so bad a fit after all. Maybe Lynch could use it to tie up all the loose ends left by Twin Peaks.

Clint Eastwood, he's one of my favorite directors but imagine his Star Wars lol
Robert Zemeckis, love that guy but holy crap has he been on a descent since Forrest Gump
Paul Thomas Anderson, once again fantastic director but just imagine how bizarre

But the worst good director (though I think he's overrated but I digress) Quentin "nobody asked you to do it so shut up about it" Tarantino that would be an epic fail.

Christopher Nolan. He'll dumb down and neuter everything to make it more "realistic".

Beyond everyone else, I think Tim Burton would be the worst fit. I used to be a fan of his, but he now seems incapable of serving the material without his ego getting in the way. Alice in Wonderland was a travesty.

That's funny - I thought his Alice did a remarkable job of keeping the spirit of not just Carroll's books, but some of his own life as well. Were he alive today, I'm sure he would have loved it. In fact, that's one of the only Burton flicks I actually enjoyed.

I'd be happy to discuss this, but it'd take the thread too far off-topic.

I forgot to add..... Quentin Tarantino.... he may be a good director (for some films anyway) not sure if he would be good for Star Wars though!

I would put Roland Emmerich but you asked for good directors who would be bad for Star Wars, right? He doesn't fit into that category.

I like Tim Burton and didn't mind Alice, I mean it wasn't great but I don't think it warranted the amount of hate that got slung it's way. The being said, I totally agree, he would be an unimaginably bad choice for a Star Wars film. Not that he's a bad director, he's just utterly incapable of changing his art direction. Everything he does screams Tim Burton.

However.....there could be no mainstream director worse for Star Wars than Baz Luhrman. Talk about someone who couldn't change direction to save himself. I could almost guarantee a reprise of "Luke be a Jedi Tonight" if Baz took the helm.

I dont know if anyone would consider him good, but Michael Bay needs to stay far far far away. Otherwise Ep VII would feature 8 Death Starsbeing blown up.
