Fanclub The Yoda: Dark Rendezvous Fan Club

I love this book. It captured Yoda perfectly and I really liked the Padawans. The scene when the house keeper wants to knock Yoda on the head with her broom was hilarious, especially Dooku's response. I also love the scene when the disguised Yoda steals a kid's soda and fights over his dinner with the cafeteria droid.

 

I'm about halfway through it so far. I'm really loving this lighthearted portrayal of Yoda. It's great to see him be able to keep his joyful nature with the Clone Wars going on all around them, not to mention the centuries that all the Jedi around him have either grown old and died or been killed. I can see where Yoda sees them as his "family." They are the closest thing to "children" he ever gets. I already respected Yoda, but I have to say I'm a much bigger fan now.

 

It does make me wish Sean Stewart had gotten to write more SW books.

If Yoda's backstory ever gets permitted to be put in novels- I'd like him to get first crack at it.

 

I've decided to re-read it. I've lost all motivation to reread the NJO now that I've read Anakin's death again. I think Yoda is a perfect fit for my mood.

Sorry for the double post. Nobody was posting.

My knowledge of Ventress is extremely limited. Mostly just heard about her. In fact, this is the first thing I've read with her in it. She's talented, but I really don't think she's all that. She's cocky and arrogant like a Sith, but I just don't think she has what it takes to be Sith. I have yet to finish the book however. I can see where she's a useful tool to Dooku and of course Sidious through him, but that's it. All she will ever be is a pawn. Of course, everybody was a pawn when we're talking about Sidious.

 

They certainly don't mix well.

I finished the book. I feel sad for Yoda of course with him not being able to bring Dooku back. But I feel sad for Dooku as well. The old Master made well on his promise that he would be there to catch him when he fell, but he just wouldn't let go of the dark side. And Ventress and her desperate argument that Sidious was just going to use Dooku up did eventually come true.

Anyway, this was one goes up there near the top of my favorite books. Need more like this one.

 

Glad you liked it. To me, there are only 5 truly stellar Star Wars books and this is the very first among those giants. The action is pretty confined to one or two locations, features a handful of characters, and armies and fleets are nowhere in sight and yet the stakes could not have been more profound.

It also is, in my opinion, one of the best depictions of Darth Sidious as we'll see him in ROTJ. A brilliant political schemer, yes, but ultimately nothing more than a spiteful jerk. I love it.

 

He really was a true incarnation of evil. And a huge jerk.

 

The way he treats Dooku throughout the book? All the mind games and taunts? It's so cruelly juvenile and awesome. Remember, Palpatine is the biggest troll in mainstream scifi.

 

I'm interested to hear what you think the other four are.

 

In no particular order: Revenge of the Sith, The Unifying Force, Cloak of Deception, and Shatterpoint.

 

Luceno and Stover. The two best authors in the EU.

I am in full agreement.

Darth Plagueis replaces The Unifying Force for me, purely because the Prequel Era interests me more. But all of Luceno's work is pure gold.

 

Just read this book. I loved it!

 

I love this book. It brought yoda to life for me and made me realise that dooku really was a jedi once upon a time.

 

I loved all the metaphors with the lamp and the shell. Made me tear up

Maks: “There will be ripples, I suppose, spreading out.”
Yoda: “Yes! The pebble strikes the water, and a wave carries out until …?”
Maks: “It reaches the shore.”
Yoda: “Just so. But is the water in the wave where the pebble drops the same as the water in the wave that touches the shore?”
Maks: “No …?”
Yoda: “And yet the wave is the same wave?”
Maks: “You think we can become … waves in the Force, holding our shape?”
Yoda: “Speak of this once, Qui-Gon did.”

 

Definitely worth a read; it makes Yoda both personable and wise, and is my favorite portrayal of him.
