THEATRES OF WAR Star Wars Saga Play by Post

    This looks like to be a veyr long post, as I am going to put all the details of the game here to make it easier to find for you guys. I know what it is like to hunt through a thread for something.

    The nature of the game

    I'm not revealing much yet, but the basics are these: the players will be members of a Rebel cell, and there's no NPC members so you guys are it. You will be operating fairly independently, though under orders to carry out missions from Alliance command with occassional support from the forces of the alliance. You will have your own ship which is your base, but we'll get to that later.

    The way I GM is that I will present you with problems and tools and you need to find the solution, I usually award XP depending on how much you surprise me. Unlike at the table though, I can't go to the little GMs room while you plot this. And I pass notes occassionally too, but here it will be more PMs.

    I also like skills being used as much as possible, and I do use 4E style skill challenges. And never be afraid to follow the Rule of Cool or Rule of Fun, unless it is game breaking of course.

    This game is being run in the year 1 ABY, a year after the Death Star was destroyed.

    Materials

    I will be using the CoCo Dice Roller, which you need to register for, and the MythWeavers website for character sheets, which you will also need to register for. Invisible Castle is a bit nicer and you don't have to register, but the site is not very good statistically and is often down at very inconvenient times.

    Dice rolls will be made in thread, except for me as I'll roll secretly sometimes [face_devil]

    I have access to all the current books except for Legacy and will be using Core, Rebellion and a bit of The Force Unleashed in this campaign. If you have access to Rebellion, please give it a good read as I'll be using a lot of elements from it, of great importance are the pages on Rebel cells and I can't emphasise this enough as they're important right from character creation. If you can't get the book, and I know RPG books cost here are the relevant pages from mine which I have scanned (and this is perfectly legal, Viceroy ;))

    Allowed Books

    In terms of species, I am allowing everything in all the books with the exception of Rakata, Ewoks, Yuuzhan Vong and Gen'Dai. The first three make little sense story-wise, the last I consider overpowered and don't allow in any of my games. I also have two homebrew species that will be relevant to this campaign. They're kinda like water-elves and called Qava and Cayr, let me know if you want to play them and I can provide the relevant crunch.
    In terms of feats, talents and items, only those from Core, Rebellion, The Force Unleashed, Scum and Villany, Threats (I think there are a few there) and Galaxy at War are allowed, but some of the more specialised ones (like military training for instance) will be within reason.

    Character Creation

    Characters will be starting at level 5, a 22 point buy with rolling in-thread for credits and HP. And I do allow multi-classing, just don't be a complete munchkin about it, mkay? I am only going to allow credits rolling until level 2, lets not make this too Monty Haul when you guys are rather impoverished Rebels.
    I'd like to use backgrounds, but can't say yes or no at the moment as I am not sure if everyone will have the Rebellion book. At the moment, don't add in the benefits just yet but they can be used as a starting point.
    Backstory does not have to be exhaustive, this doesn't have to be fan fiction which I would hardly have time to read. Some of this I would like you guys to collaborate on, given that I'd like the Rebel cell to have a little history. A name for the cell would also be nice. :D

    I'll be playing the part of the friendly mod :p and quite possibly an actual character. Give me a day or so to think one up.

    I don't have the books, so will need help building a character. If you're willing to do that, I'll be happy to play. How about a solid grunt merc-type fighter? Blaster riffle, some grenades, body armor, and whatever else is appropriate. Sergeant Hirry Gront reporting in.

    I already have an idea for a character; a spoiled noble with a background in starship racing. A hot pilot but very naive, who decides to join the rebellion out of a sense of idealism, and is going to quickly see the galaxy is a really rough place. I'd be willing to work with other pc's who will kind of "introduce" me to the rebels.

    Ok, registered on both sites, just waiting for the GM to start the thread so I can roll for stats. :)

    RT, you just described my character in my current face-to-face RPG! Funny.

    Koohii, drop me an PM with your email address and I'll send you some stuff. I have a couple resources that should help.

    So we have a solider and a noble so far. I guess I'll work on a scout or scoundrel type of character then to even things out. Sneaky, crafty, smart-assed, tech-savvy, and fairly intelligent.

    Not sure what you mean by "beginning the thread", but things can move a lot better once everyone gets here. With flare, leona and luigi, that makes six players...which I am okay with as long as it's not too Chaotic.

    Think also about the party roles, that photobucket link tells you all about it. I'd like to add another: XO or Executive Officer who's basically Number 2.

    EDIT: With Dave that makes seven players! :oops: I am going to say yes, but you need to help out. I'll have a hard enough time giving you guys decent encounters for your Challenge Level given that your is going to be 9.

    Let us know if you have any questions Healer :) I'm considering running a real and a goofy RPG session at CV, so learning now might help.

    Nice to see some new faces here!

    Been working on my character, no name or back-story yet, but that should happen soon. I'm a female Arkanian Offshoot, scoundrel, a slicer and a decent pilot.

    If I end up going to CV, I will be interested Dajuan.

    As for backstory, at the very minimum you can answering four questions.

    1. What was your character doing prior to joining the Rebel Alliance?
    2. What were the circumstances of yuor character joining the alliance and, consequentially, joining this Rebel cell?
    3. What skills/materials does your character bring to the cell?
    4. What do you tell people in order to get them to tray and join the Alliance?

    If you don't like me playing a droid, I'd settle with an old and grizzled Human soldier. A former Sector Ranger and Clone Wars veteran, silent and gruff but with a heart of gold.

    You would be around forty, FTR, given this is 1 ABY. And as I said in the hat, I don't mind you playing a droid but it needs a good look through. The only time I will say no to a character concept a player puts towards me if it is wrong thematicaly, like wanting to play a goblin or elf as one of my players once asked me.

    If I go with the droid I wouldn't mind being Daj's property. My idea kind of fits with her wacky smuggler concept. :)

    Luigi just pointed out that Rules as Written state that it is a 25 point buy, not 22. I think I have been hanging around too many 4E threads. [face_plain]

    Taking a look at what you guys are saying and what I have spoken to you about, it looks as if you are leaning towards the following:

    Koohi: Possibly Command, not sure yet
    Rogue: Possibly Medical officer if you go for the well-educated Noble thing or transport specialist
    Dajuan: Maybe Transport specialist or security officer
    Schwartz: Given what I know about his droid, more than likely quartermaster, and this could go with if Dajuan was transport specialist
    Luigi: Intel

    Flare has yet to check in, and it has been a few days since I have seen him, but there's still recruiter and medic left.

    Any objections to my observations?

    Definetly not medical. I can't roleplay medics very well.

    I'm finally playing KL-86, a valet droid with some dubious programming, trapped in a world he didn't make.

    Could someone explain the knowledge skill to me a little better? I find the book's description lacking. Do I take it on as multiple skills if I want different areas of expertise? Do I have to choose just one, or are they all included under the umbrella of "knowledge (which doesn't seem to be the case)? Where do I list which areas my character is knowledgeable in? Thanks.

    Credits: 1d4+1d4+1d4=8 8*250=2450
    HP: 1d6+1d6+1d6+1d6=11 so 17+11=28

    Character

    EF: Each knowledge skill is considered separate. You have: Bureaucracy, Galactic Lore, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, Tactics, and Technology. Different sheets have them listed differently.

    Transport specialist works for me. How should we be handling gear?

    Sorry to see you go rogue, we still need someone to fill the role of Command. Koohi?

    As for gear, you can use current credits for gear in the allowed books but it needs to make sense (i.e. no stormtrooper riles if you haven't been one). Luigi, I know I told you different in the hat, but the base price is fine. The licenses/illegals are more for in game, I'm much more generous at the start of the game.

    Have not the time to go through your sheet yet, Dajuan, but I will tonight.

    So if I had an extra class skill that I didn't know what to do with, I could put it into Knowledge for something else other than my original knowledge point? That is what I thought, I just don't know where to put down which Knowledge skills I have ("Feats, Talents, and Force Powers" or somewhere else). The sheet I have only has a place for Knowledge under the skills, with nothing to differentiate.
