Quoting Chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of American, Inc. Dan Glickman: ?There will be no sequel in their charade.?

%20 Unfortunately presents "Thee Backslacpkping With Media" as thee sequel in this charade.

When the spread of knowledge/information is the center piece, can 700 willful copyright infringements pass as a valid form of education/dissemination?

This weeks chapter "Downloading/Pirating/Those Fans" investigates.. .. .. Downloading, Pirating and Those Fans. Not tempted enough how about if I told you that CNN's Anderson Cooper gets a verbal scolding by a Han Solo cutscene because of his exploitation of the Star Wars Kid phenomenon. Not enough, check out the confused FBI/ICE video which results in an illegally downloaded.. .. .. trailer? But at least that video disproves the 'One Click Kid' who's faux-news scare tactic segment got packaged and shown on local newscasts all across the world. Not enough, Tom Hanks admits to not paying to see Star Wars! So here's to "the artists and dreamers in all of us."

As a continuation of this exploration experiment. Draft of What if 'Thee Backslacpkping With Media' became a textual piece. Here's an example of what the last Chapter 27 "Downloading/Pirating/Those Fans" could turn into, minus the fancy graphics.

'Thee Backslacpkping With Media' as a textual piece:
    Chapter : 27
    Title : Downloading/Pirating/Those Fans
    Duration : 00:11:01:16
    Clip Total : 096

    Clip : 27.001

Source Program : Star Wars Episode III - London Premiere
    Air Date : 2005.05.16
    Speaker : Anthony Daniels
Quote : "The legend has grown beyond the movies. That you have people here dressed up as Jedi and so on. And that is going on all around the world, everywhere around the world there are Star Wars fans who take it for themselves."
Commentary Review Continued Insight Information : As a spokesman for the Star Wars franchise, Anthony Daniels has spoken worldwide on behalf of this industry. But he seems to miss the point that these fans who "take it for themselves" are also giving back when they dress up in public promoting their favorite cultural phenomenon.

    Clip : 27.002
    Duration : 00:13:16
    Source Network : AMC
Source Program : Bleep! - Censoring Hollywood
    Air Date : 2005.XX.XX
    Speaker : Stephen Soderbergh
Quote : "If I want to sit at home and take the Star Wars Trilogy, and and do my own version and make it two hours long. And watch it in my living room... that... i'm allowed to do that."
Commentary Review Continued Insight Information : Stephen has repeatedly used the fan editing of Star Wars as his litmus test of what people should and should not be able to do with movies. It would be nice if he expressed his ideas of what he would change. 60 Minutes did a follow up review of the movie piracy situation on 2009.11.01, in the blurb on the website, Steven says "on-line movie pirates should have their internet privileges suspended." There are people who feel that communications, like free speech, are an intrinsic right, so when an industry claims that the internet is a privilege, you might want to take note. Industries have the funds and time to lobby governments. A similarly logic'd statement was said by Mark Getty, chairman of Getty Images, he said "Intellectual Property is the oil of the 21st century." Some people feel that this is one of the first declarations of war on the current functioning of the internet, where freer communications is central to the democratic body. 'Thee Backslacpkping With Media' is attempting to continue to evolution of the understanding of ideas and culture. If it were to function logically, as much of media would be searchable and digestible like how taking a book out of the library functions today. As of today (2009.12.05) there are bits and pieces of a proposed new 'Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement' (ACTA) which could make the desired tBSWM video search system never to be given the possibility of being created. The United States government has not spoken on record about this agreement over 'national security' concerns. Some people consider the language of this agreement will have the ability to overturn one of the core understandings of the internet, which allows ISP not to be responsible for the infringement which happen on their networks. For instance, online video storage places, like youtube, dailymotion or vimeo can't be brought into court every time a copyright concern is addressed. A video/media search/cut-up/recompile system needs a database to with draw from. Libraries were never that much of a concern, yet everything can be found and borrowed from them. People still willingly purchase works even though the free alternative is there. I don't think this will change, the idea of Supporting Creatives is firmly intrenched in the logic of humans.

Sorry but I don't think i'm able. My recent attempt to create the one sentence description is the following:

"An unprecedented investigation into the recorded perception of the Star Wars phenomenon at the time of the release of the final theatrical episode."

...really isn't that catchy, informative or comprehensible. But it is what it is.

So let's take a different approach to learning about this project. There's a DVD. It can be watched online here: http://www.noneinc.com/tBSWM/tBSWM_Video.html Don't necessarily think you have to start at the beginning, read the titles and if one sounds interesting start there. Previous comments from this thread have asked "And lastly, why are a group of pirates making mashup 'documediamentries' about star wars?" Maybe this is the one sentence description which suits your needs.

If not, more information on the project can be found in the FAQ: http://noneinc.com/tBSWM/tBSWM_FAQ.html

This project doesn't have a defined goal, it's an investigative journey into what took place about 5 years ago as Revenge of the Sith premiered. A lot happened. Like the recently mentioned Cease and Desist of the RotS 1337 subtitled trailer. As you watch other issues come up. I'm hoping that as people discuss this project, other issues will spring up for discussion.

Part of a recent review attempted to describe the project this way:

If anyone wants to take a shot at a short description please attempt. I'm currently revising the cover artwork and description for the copies i'll be bringing to Celebration 5.

yeah im still stuck at trying to figure out what the heck "Backslacpkping" is. seriously are u making words up? I've tried reading a post or 2 of yours, in my feeble attempt comprehend what u are doing from this rambling text, but my brain overloads and short circuits before I can get past the post's title.

    Backslacpkping...sounds dirty

The original title language is Chinese, so in the translation there wasn't a specific english word, so two were combined to create a new one. I'm surprised that people of the Star Wars community who are used to fabricated character names and words are having an issue. Here's the term explanation I gave on forums.starwars.com.

The term 'backslackpkping' is a smooshing of two terms, it's meant to symbolize an inherent contradiction. Sort of like how in quantum mechanics an electrical charge can possess two states. The way we treat media, either as this charged element which moves us towards action but also as this thing we toss aside and ignore. Any piece of media (news report, youtube video, home video, blog post, etc) contains both those criteria (states) until you the viewer views them. The title of this project attempted to create a new term which identified this condition.

The project's primary output is the video, so watch some, then if still interested come back for more text.

    This message board certainly is.

In all his trying to explain what 'backslackpkping' means, it is obvious that he hasn't noticed that he also wrote 'thee' (is it supposed to be 'the'?), and that neither 'backslapping with media' or 'slacking with media' make any sense. It's not that we can't comprehend puns, it's that this, specifically, makes no sense.

None, what you appear to be proposing here is a conflagration of media, agenda, opinion and assessment presented in a format which is not about narrative, but about exploration through installation.

In short, None, you're promoting what can only be describe as a media-based fine-art installation.

Whatever your agenda, whether it be archival, whether it be opinionistic or even purely dadaist, this project that you're asking us to take a look at and understand is not documentary nor is it narrative in any way nor is it easily accessible to the average person on this forum and because of these aspects, people are having difficulty appreciating your efforts.

Your refusal to concede that your word: "Backslacpkping" both defies the laws of latin word construction and is also unpronounceable is an example of how hard it is for people to understand what you're trying to promote here and also how you're potentially not helping them understand it.

Having watched about half of the content you've posted, I posit that this is an archival media-based fine-arts project and is more based on an agenda of media experimentation than it is about Star Wars fan activities. And that's my right to interpret as I choose and see fit.

I congratulate you on the work you have done on this, but it may help you to understand that people still don't get it and those that do (like me) find it interesting, but not really all that surprising nor particularly challenging as a work on the whole.

AdamBertocci, if you can bring back GregoryHarbin's original post please do. Was it just the quote posted in the first response.

I did not write that, someone else did, later in the thread. I don't know why, but that phrase makes sense to some of you. I don't find myself to be a group, and i prefer willful copyright infringer to pirate. and this project is not a mashup per se. Hence the creation of the documediamentary term.

Couldn't people post threads in any language which uses the A, B, C's?

And here's the definition of 'Thee': http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/thee

    Quote:
1 a ?used especially in ecclesiastical or literary language and by Friends especially among themselves in contexts where the objective case form would be expected b ?used by Friends especially among themselves in contexts where the subjective case form would be expected

In addition to those ideals, it was also used to project a hoity toity sense. You may use 'the'.

Does the word Amanaman make any sense to you? It's a name. If you can't get beyond the name of this project, the whole project might not be for you. For those that can, the video can be watched here:
    http://www.noneinc.com/tBSWM/tBSWM_Video.html

Thanks for the quotes NZPoe. But I disagree with your assessment that there is no narrative. Yes there's no classical film narrative of a story which takes character 'A' from point 'Y' to point 'Z'. Instead similar to Koyaanisqatsi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koyaanisqatsi) you are presented with material which is familiar but recomposed so that other issues surface. Then as a whole the narrative becomes (in this case) how society presented the Star Wars phenomenon in the four months just around the release of Revenge of the Sith.

But yes 'media-based fine-art installation' is a way to describe this thing. I'll propose this question, what if search engines were able to do what tBSWM does but for any search query. At that point is it no longer fine-art but edutainment? This is one of the agenda's this project is attempting to promote, the ability for anyone to re-use all of youtube for example as a source to find out things.

I never conceded this point because it was never brought up, but yes it defies latin word construction. It's pronounceable but very difficult. The FAQ will be ammended to reinforce that this is a made up new word.

Let's step back and if you came to this thread and the title of this film was:
    [image=http://www.noneinc.com/tBSWM/tBSWM-Images/tBSWM-09-TitleBar.jpg]

(the original chinese and galactic basic translation) So at that point you would have to make a decision, do i watch the film knowing that you might not understand it or not watch because films not in your native language are not of interest to you. Now some people might just call it 'that chinese titled film' and that might be it. Some might attempt to translate it using a friend or online translation tools. and they would come up with some other results. We are at a point in time when mechanical translation is enabeling people to communicate with people they would normally not be able to. This idea is part of this project. like the 'backstroke of the west' the entire presentation has been translated into chinese and back into english. (only available on the DVD version - download from website)

I was having a really crumby day before I came and check the updated "none"sense that was going on in this thread.

Dear thread creator, you really need to stop making up words and expecting people to know what it's supposed to mean.

Can we post with ABC's? yes

asdhflajsdlfkjadsklfjadsklj can u expect us to know what it means, no, no u cant.

And "Thee" and "The" are not interchangeable words. Yes, again they're both english and use the ABC's (rofl) but I cant just throw the word Noodle in there and expect people to think im making a rational thought.

I cannot thank of any better response to this thread.
