I've been doing some thinkin' lately.

I believe that Episode III will show Padme -- not Obi-Wan -- bringing Luke to live with the Larses.

    My reasoning:

    (1) Ewan McGregor was not present for the Episode III shooting in Tunisia. But Natalie Portman was.
    (2) It is widely assumed, even probable, that the Episode III shot in Tunisia was of Luke being dropped off at the farm.
    (3) Obi-Wan doesn't tell Luke that he personally brought Luke to the farm (right?)
    (4) Padme knows the Larses, where they live, etc. Obi-Wan hasn't met them yet; why should they listen to him?
    (5) Anakin (before he shows signs of evil!) tells Padme in AOTC that the Larses are "good people". She can rationalize that 'light side Anakin' would have wanted it this way.
    (6) It would mess with our expectations. Lucas likes that.
    (7) It would allow the Larses to really think that Kenobi was a crazy old hermit, not the guy who gave them their nephew who they tell Luke to stay away from for economic reasons.

Things that detract from my theory:
    (1) We need to show Obi-Wan choosing to live on Tatooine. But he could simply tell Padme "I'll join you shortly". Or he could wait in the ship for her.
    (2) EU clearly states he took Luke there... but does Lucas care?
    (3) The official site says Obi-Wan took Luke there. Hmm. I got nothin' for that.

    Thoughts?

It's definitely an interesting theory, and it's something I'm quite looking forward to seeing in EIII. All of your points do make logical sense, so I wouldn't say that it's impossible.

Ewan doesn't need to be onset. A wide shot of the homestead could have been taken at Tunisia with a double acting the part of Obi-Wan. Anymore that Lucas would need for that scene could be done in a studio infront of everybodies favourtie piece of equipment - a blue screen.

I still think Obi-Wan will take Luke to the Lars', but I believe Padme will tell Obi-Wan to take them there. But you do bring up some good points.

Your theory would explain why Luke apparently knows his true family name: Skywalker. (Note though, Luke is never called by any last name until after he meets Kenobi with the droid. The first time anyone says Luke's last name is when Luke introduces himself to Leia.)

Perhaps Kenobi bring both mother and son to the Homestead.

Then again, perhaps Kenobi tries to take Luke to protect and train, then the Lars' refuse. If Kenobi tries to persuade the Lars to let him take Luke, I could see Owen retorting, "what, like you trained Anakin?"

Thanks to CGI, Ewan McGregor need not be in Tunisia to be in the Ep. III shot: look on the AOTC DVD commentary and they explain that the actor playing Sio Bibble (sp), the Nubian official who calls Anakin "Master Jedi," could not be in Italy on site. Therefore, Lucas with CGI and bluescreen pasted him in. On the other hand, the scruitiny that a Kenobi at the Homestead shot would endure cuts against the CGI scenario.

The image of Kenobi handing Luke to his aunt and uncle, before walking off into the Binary Sunset is a fan art image that has been kicking around since at least 1983. All the more reason, I agree Lucas might play with the expectations. We'll see that he is full of surprises. ;)

What if Padmé actually gives birth to the twins at the Lars Homestead?

Now see I always assumed that Obi Wan brought Luke to the Larses, because Padme needed to go give Leia to Bail. I always thought Padme would bring Leia to Bail, because they were fellow senators and it just made sense. Could be wrong...

What if Padme AND Obi-Wan deliver the twins to Owen and Beru on Tatooine? After all, at the end of AOTC, Obi-Wan doesn't know of Owen and Beru. Anakin told Padme they were "good people" so she decides to leave Luke with them with the promise from Obi-Wan that he would keep an eye out for him and train him some day. He then tells Padme to be sure to tell Leia about him and if her situation ever gets desperate enough, to contact him on Tatooine. Padme then leaves Tatooine with Leia bound for Alderaan while Obi-Wan wanders off into the desert....cue music!!

I agree very much with "YOUNG PADME'S" post. I think that padme will bring leia to bail because she would have a much better connection with a man in bails ranking than Obi-wan would. Also I think that Obi-Wan had a reason for staying on tatooine. you've gotta remember, he's just come from fighting Anakin and lost any HOPE of bringing him back to the light side. But he still has "A NEW HOPE" of bringing luke to learn the ways of the light side of the force. therefore he decides that since there is no jedi council to go running back to(they have all been killed) that he has nothing to lose by becoming a hermit on tatooine until luke comes of age.

Who says that Obi-Wan was going to train Luke? I think he spends the next 20 years on Tatooine, wallowing in his failure as a Jedi master and Luke was always meant to be trained by Yoda, not Obi-Wan. Remember, Yoda knows about Luke just as well as Obi-Wan (in ESB he said something 'long time I have watched this one' or something to that extent).

But I'm getting off on a tangent. :p

Anyway, I don't see how Padme can't be able to deliver both her children to safety, with Obi-Wan escorting her each time. Padme obviously has the better connections (most of Obi's would have been killed off in Eppy 3 :p).

That's a pretty good theory, Adam. Makes sense to me.

As an adjunct to this, why does Obi-Wan settle on Tatooine? If they weren't going to train Luke, wouldn't it be better to be on another planet, just in case Vader comes knocking?

I was just thinking, we all assumed (mostly from T. Zahn) that Yoda hid on Dagobah b/c the planet's strong DS aura "hid" his Light Side aura; therefore, Palps and Vader would overlook Dagobah.

But if that IS the reason Yoda hides specifically on Dagobah, wouldn't Obi-Wan want to go to a place with a strong DS aura?

    Or does Tatooine have one?

Maybe Dooku or some other DS force-user besides Palp and Vader follows Padme and Obi-Wan to Tatooine, and Obi-Wan takes him out. Thus we have a DS aura Ben can "hide" himself in for the next 20 years.

As far as the hiding of the twins go, is it just me, or is niether one really "hidden". I mean when you think about it, they are both in kind of obvious spots that are fairly familiar. Anakin growing up on Tatoonie and so does his son later on. And it seems to me that when Vader is interogating Leia, it was not thier first conversation.

I definitely agree, that was not the first time Leia and Vader have spoken to one another. But I think it makes more sense that Padme tak Luke to the Lars because, as it was stated, thats probably what Light Side Anakin would have wanted (really, what WAS the purpose of Anakin saying "these are good people" if not to make Padme feel safe?). Also, since the Lars family obviously loved Shmi enough to let her into their family, they surely would feel love towards Shmi's grandchild, who would very much be a part of their family. And while I like the idea that Obi-Wan delivers Leia to Bail (how else would Bail know Obi-Wan survived the Jedi purge, and where to contact him in ANH?), the theory is shot to heck by the fact that in ESB, Obi-Wan doesn't even know about Leia...either that, or he doesn't believe Leia is capable of defeating the Empire if Luke fails, hence his line "that boy is our last hope" with Yoda's "no, there is another" retort.

    Hmmm....not necessarily.

Ben obviously knew of Leia...well maybe not, actually - I never thought of it like that. I just assumed he knew that Leia existed - if he had talked with Padme at all, you'd figure he would know about both twins.

Anyway, I just figured Obi-Wan, for some reason, thought that Leia wasn't suitable - whether it would be more difficult to train her in the Force, b/c of her political training or whatever, or b/c Anakin would identify more with his son (especially when being zapped by Sith Lightning)....

i like these ideas...what if GL plays with our expectations even more, like what if obi wan didn't know that there were twins? what if only yoda and padme knew? maybe yoda recommends that they are to be seperated...we don't know if they'll be born in a state of chaos and confusion or a lull in the storm of episode III...i could be totally wrong...i'm trying to remember what obi knew in ep IV...i wonder why yoda didn't take one to degobah...he could have taught it to kick some serious @ss!!!

How do you know? For all we know, Padme (who I assume dies near the end of Episode III) could give birth to the twins at the beginning or the middle of the movie, thus giving her plenty of time to send them to safety.

I'd guess the same thing, Maddux.

I doubt Lucas would kill off such an important character as Padme early in Episode III.

Plus, I have a feeling that Padme will be involved in Anakin's transformation into Vader (I mean turning to the DS, not the armor).
