Hey guys, I'm not sure if this has been discussed or not, but I thought I'd bring it up.

I was just watching the theatrical trailer for TPM, and whenever they had a scene of Queen Amidala talking, her voice was lighter and frankly sounded more feminin. It was basiclly Natalie Portman's actual voice (though there were times it sounded like she was talkin with a british accent-which sounded fine)

Anyway, the way it is in the trailer is nowhere near the same way as it is in the actual movie. So they must've deepend her voice in post in the sound room or something. Now I'm gonna guess and say they deepend her voice so it would sound different when she was Padme so that the surprise at the end would have a better impact.

But watching that trailer...she sounded SO MUCH better using her own voice. It was far superior than the deepened version. I'm sure if they kept her actual voice in, she wouldn't have recieved a lot of flak for her acting in that movie.

Yeah, I really fell in love with her voice from the trailers. IT was such a shock to hear the less alive, more monotone version. Oh well.

I like the movie voice. Her "real" voice is weaker.

    Trailers are spoilers

They only changed her voice when she is the Queen, right?

    I believe so.
In AOTC, she never has that deeper voice, BTW.

I wouldn't say that they changed her voice, though. She probably just rerecorded the lines in a different way.

    Portman is really good

I actually liked her higher voice in the trailers better.

Story wise, I wonder what the story behind her changing voice was.

She was speaking with a traditional regal accent and inflection for Naboo.

Plus, a lot of "her" as the queen was actually Keira Knightly.

    Slimy!

And when she was queen, she had to disguise her voice not only to sound eloquent and powerful, but also to seemlessly change back and forth between she and her decoys. It wouldn't do very well for her to have one voice, then whip around have another one, and expect nobody to notice. But it was only while she was queen - that was Portman's real voice in all the scenes with Anakin.

I watched this not too long ago and noticed this for the first time as well.

I'm actually REALLY glad they changed it. The way they did it was so...commanding, and really, in a way, hypnotic and mesmerizing. Plus it made for a greater contrast between Queen and Padme. I liked what they did.

I like both voices. But hey I like Natalie Portman all together. LOL.
