The episode with the Itchy and Scratchy movie. Itchy runs over Scratchy with a train, and they cut that part out!!!!

Are you offended and outraged by this censorship?

If so, then the world will explode in a big ball of irony.

I think it's kinda ironic in that a lot of people use the "Simpsons" rule when posting here. IE if it's allowed on The Simpsons, then it's allowed here.

And yet, even a cartoon - which has been voted the best Children's Program ever - has to be edited by Channel 4 no less!!

But you wouldn't expect the Simpsons to have to be edited on Channel 4 at 6pm

If channel 4 (well E4) can show Desperate Housewives at 6 in the evening then why can't they show a lame thing like that?

And why would it be ironic if I was offended or outraged be censorship?

That wasn't the episode that was just on. It was that one where they get new neighbours and Bart falls in love with the girl.

As far as I remember, there was no Itchy and Scratchy in it [face_thinking]

It was from the other day. We were watching it on TiVo. But it was still a 6pm show on Channel 4 [face_blush]

Be thankful Hal, if it was the BBC it would have been the first episode of The Simpsons to jump from intro to end credits right away!

That would be the best episode of the Simpsons ever.

Not really, the first time i saw that episode was on the bbc, and the train scene was left in.

So that begs the question what are C4 doing!?!

The BBC censored it much more then Channel 4, they used to blank out all the swearing, which C4 dont do

Maybe it was just a glitch

Most shows are editted whence played in syndication.

"Friends" is a prime example. Awkward cuts and odd laughing-where-there-should-be-none is rife throughout that syndicated show as a result.

But our non-Sky Channels show less adverts than American TV. One solitary 5-second cut (and a "violent" cut at that) is not a result of syndication, rather censorship.

Yeah, I guess, but it depends. I thought you should it was 4, not Sky? Anyway, I shouldn't worry, you can just buy the DVD's. ;)

Oh I've got the DVDs, so I'm not that bothered, just very surprised. And it was definitely C4, cos it was recorded on TiVo (it only records terrestrial channels)

The point of censorship (of this nature) is to avoid offending people and causing outrage (ie by removing profanity, violence etc). If you were offended and outraged because they removed parts then it's the opposite of the expected outcome and hence is ironic.

I figured that was what you thought I was getting at, but I wasn't :)

We should all write letters to C4 complaining about the censorship - just to drive the irony home.

I always thought Channel 4 were the most lenient channel when it came to censorship

They always have been, but I seem to remember them getting into a fair bit of trouble for an episode of Angel they showed uncut that was around the 6pm timeslot.
