It's sad that academics have to stoop so low to bolster their argument isn't it? ;)

Our art dept. has done a great many caricatures of that image.

Because it finally destroyed so many childhoods, like mine, as the villain I've watched for 23 years was reduced to a Jedi Knight who cried all the time and had the mother of all tantrums at the end, complete with cheesy exclamation.

Thank you George Lucas for making Darth Vader a total bawling wimp.

    The Internet.

Most of the internet is laem, yet I'm finding myself laughing at increasingly more of it. All Your Base, What Taters? and Numa Numa crack me up. I snicker anytime I see someone directing poor noobs to goatse.cx when they're asking for help. Particularly, I LOL at the misfortunes of others. Photoshoppping - Quality Photoshopping reduces me to tears of laughter.

Also, Engrish is always good for a laugh.

One where Hayden Christensen admirably bawls at the slightest provocation. I just pretend that the Anakin of the books, rather than film, is real. :p

That might be a slight exaggeration.

When I worked in a car yard it was always funny when someone elde walked behind a car and hit their shin on a towbar. Never that funny when I did it myself though.

Yeah. It's all about Lucas trying to humanise Anakin, so that people can sympathise with his plight. And perhaps I would have...if the rest of the story line wasn't such a tragedy. :p

I think, somehow, that tragedy was the point. I'm hearing a lot of anti-Anakin sentiments and it strikes me that this is precisely what Lucas wanted. Back before TPM, Lucas said in an interview that the prequels would be a tragic tale of good corrupted. He wasn't far wrong.

There are layers here people - layers.

    /bizarre defence

I find it doubtful that when lucas said "tragedy" he meant it in relation to the quality of the films...

Hmmm...but maybe he was referring to TPM when he said tragedy. And that certainly was a tragedy. :p

No, but I agree with Sai. Aside from being a wimp - which I don't really think he was, given his circumstances and [snicker] given the script [/snicker] - you kinda felt for the guy. I think it could have been done better, but not too many complaints coming from me. Remember, people change over time, and Vader grew into a hard-@ssish character with time.

And Ender, men cry too. :p

I disagree. TPM was not a tragedy, merely a farce. AOTC was a tragedy.

Aye...I'll agree with that assessment. TPM was mere foreplay!

*shakes his head sadly at the bashing the prequels are getting*

You don't have to hit every ball for 6... you can accept some to whoosh behind you.

You misunderstand my point. What you see as a mere tragedy, I suggest is Tragedy in the more poetic sense. The quality of the prequels is something that can only be judged against a benchmark and I am simply suggesting that there is another type of 'tragedy' that may inform one's viewing. Taken as Tragedy (the fall of innocence, morality and order), Anakin makes perfect sense.

Men may cry, sure, but we're talking having a tantrum of epic proportions.

And the only time I invested any interest in the character of Anakin Skywalker before ANH was in novels, which is bad.

I love it when people make a complete tit of themselves on TV. Darryl Sommers trying to sing is one of my favourites. I laugh my arse off at his pathetic attempts at being entertaining.

Kerry-Anne Kennerly as well. She cracks me up when she tries her cabaret act on.

Then there's the Peter Costello macarena episode.

Basically whenever people embarrass themselves I think it's comedy gold.

One of the funniest things ever was when Wendy Harmer hosted the Logies. Unintentional gold.
