"focussing on the single player experience"

-- good! that's what made Doom such an atmospheric and scary game.

I'm pleased with the announcement. If I'm playing a first person shooter, I want monsters, puzzles and at least a sliver of plot. The latest versions of Quake and Unreal have completely given that up in favor of deathmatch gibfests. It's too bad, too, because the original Unreal had a great storyline -- for a FPS.

Doom single player rocked big time. Dont know what happened to ID with Quake. Each one got progressively worse. I didnt even buy Q3 cos Unreal Tournament kicked its sorry butt.

For single player these days, Half-Life has still got to be the best option.

That's why I like Thief so much.

You have a purpose and objectives; it is an immersive gaming experience.

    .....

Hopefully, Doom III will be full of interesting missions with objectives that will make you think with the usual carnage along the way.

    YES! More daemons to slay!

The Spider Mastermind and Icon of Sin have both fallen before my feet in Doom and Doom II, cheats and no cheats.

The blood will fly and a new game, possibly a Half-Life beater will rise!

    Oh my god!

I just though about Doom the other night. I miss those moments when there's like 15 Imps and you fire a rocket into the mob to see the little *******s get complety gibbed. Nowdays the enemies get fewer and smarter. Hope ID won't make smart enemies. Aliens and Russians are stupid (if you see what I mean, patriot Americans... (anyone who's played SoF know what I mean))!

Darth Threepewood, I think you will be pleasantly surprised when I say that Return to castle Wolfenstein is in the works over at Activision, supervised by ID.

So the classic FPS's are returning!

First a Wolfenstine game, and now Doom? This is going to kick butt. I loved Doom. I still play it with all the mods and source ports online. The game still has plenty of life in it.

    Canon means law.

If EU happened after Jedi, then it can be considered canon because according to everybody's definition of the SW canon, movies take precidence. There were no movies after Jedi, nor any other "GL" poduced things. That means Zahn is canon; that means--no matter how much I hate to say it--Anderson is canon, etc...

No. Canon is anything written or written directly from something written by George Lucas. The movies, written by GL. The novelizations and the Radio dramas, come directly from the screenplays. If George didn't write it, its not canon.

EU = Crap! For the most part. ALthough , I did like I, Jedi, some because it did reveal how some of the Jedi were hunted down, and may have had a flashback to Obi-Wan in the clone wars.

How come it is so hard to say that something in the EU is canon until GL says otherwise.
Obviously he isn't in horrible disagreement with what EU is out there because her hasn't made a fuss over all of the books being published under the Star Wars umbrella...

the thing is, the EU contradicts canon stuff, as well as itself. Even Zahn's 'official' HttE trilogy has contradictions... he claims in them that the Clone Wars happened when Anakin was 4... but in ANH Obi-Wan says that he and Anakin had fought in the Clone Wars. Hmmm. and there's others, such as Palpatine's age that he screwed up.
