    Darkseid and Thanos are really only similar superficially...Darkseid wants to destroy all life in the universe because he hates life....Thanos wants to destroy all life in the universe so he can woo the female incarnation of death!

    Aside from the lens flare, I like the poster. I don't feel like this is just dark for dark's sake. From the longer trailer and stuff I saw at Comic Con, it really felt like there was some grounded gravitas behind it. The notion that Superman might be feared makes absolute perfect sense, and it's not entirely new either. Just more new in the films, and that makes it unique and worth exploring IMHO.

    Marvel has a tendency to do that...

    The Shield (1940) --> Captain America (1941) (interesting sidenote: Timely Comics changed Cap's shield from his classic triangular shield in issue 1 to his iconic round shield as part of a lawsuit settlement with The Shield's Archie Comics)

    Catwoman (Detective Comics 1940) --> Black Cat (Harvey Comics 1941) --> Black Cat (Marvel Comics 1979)

    Deathstroke (1980) --> Deadpool (1991)

    Doom Patrol (June 1963) --> X-Men (Septermber 1963)

    Captain "Shazam" Marvel (1939) --> Captain "Mar-Vell" Marvel (1967)

    Green Arrow (1941) --> Hawkeye (1964)

    ESPECIALLY if you are Lois or Jimmy.

    To be fair, Darkseid was the first villain the JL fought in the New 52, so they could be basing it off that.

    Yep. He was originally a background throwaway character that got lucky. They even named him Wade Wilson in reference to Deathstroke being Slade Wilson and created the joke that they were distant cousins.

    DC has thus far reacted amicably...Deadpool popped up in Superman/Batman Annual #1

    He's referred to as "Alternate Deathstroke" by DC, and given a two-color mask to match his predecessor.

    Only he never said his name. He TRIED, but was always interrupted.

    The two Captain Marvels are in no way similar like Deadpool/Deathstroke and Darkseid/Thanos.

    Yeah, Wade was completely a parody of Slade when he first appeared, though he became an increasingly comedic character and had the whole 4th-wall thing that's distinguished him.

    Deathstroke, meanwhile, hasn't really broken out like Deadpool has- he probably peaked with his villain/mentorship dynamic with Robin on Teen Titans, but even there he was just called Slade.

    It's more a joke on Zack Synder's tendency to use slow motion heavily- and often extreme slow motion.

    More annoying than the use of slow motion itself is his music video-ish quick alternating between slow motion, fast, slow, fast, slow, fast, slow, fast. I absolutely loathe that.

    I know, but when you talk about copying characters, the whole character copyright lawsuit always creeps up, so I went ahead and mentioned it.

    Especially since I'm more of a Marvel fan and it gives me a chance to say "LOL SHAZAM!"

    As someone who actually likes Terrence Malick (including The Tree of Life), I'm perfectly okay with that.

    I like Terrence Malick too, but I wouldn't like him directing Rugrats, for example.

    Different strokes and all that. For me the important thing is that visually it looks very little like a Zack Snyder film, which frankly is a huge plus.

    It has that muted tone of a Snyder flick. There was also a ton of slomo.
