    Greetings, blokes.

Come now... MI:2 wasn't *that* bad of a movie.

The MI flicks are an interesting series, because the producers appear to allow the director to use the established Mission:Impossible characters in a film geared towards their unique filmmaking styles.

De Palma set the tone by making a suspenseful "De Palma-style" caper flick.

Woo then used the characters to make a pretty standard "Woo-style" flick.

[Translation: One good guy and one bad guy who are 'brothers' in some way (both having been IMF agents) duke it out while jumping sideways as they shoot guns at each other, and leap off of motorcycles at each other, while white birds fly around. See also: Hard Boiled, Broken Arrow, and Face Off.]

I think the problem was that people were expecting another De-Palma style caper flick for the sequel but got a fairly standard Woo-style flick instead. (Which is drastically different.) Hence all the backlash.

That's just one man's theory, though. Honestly, I don't actually much care for the movie myself.

Shame that MI:3 couldn't have been done by David Fincher (director of Se7en, Fight Club) like I had heard rumored long ago. That would have had potential to be cool.

Guess we'll see what Carnahan can do with the franchise.

Probably won't see the movie anyway,
    Yours Truly

P.S. Maybe they could get David Lynch to do MI:4. Now, *that* would be a party! :D

While I like John Woo's movies...MI2 just didn't do anything for me (aside from the Woo-style thing)

((dispenses ice to his fellow jedi))

That's going into my quotebook (if I had a quotebook)

With MI2 being such a very different style (I am all about "the Woo-thing" just didn't match up with the original) between the 2 movies, would a MI3 be better off...if it was similar to Mission Impossible? That way fans could pretend like it never happened (like with "Highlander 2")!!!

Well, John Woo definitely has a style unto himself, sorta like Quentin Tarantino. I personally like his style, and M:I-2, but something more along the lines of the first movie would be cool. Cruise has produced both the previous films and wants each one in the series to have its own look, hence 3 different directors. So basically you're going to have to view each one separately and judge for yourself whether you liked it or not.

Oh, and Jon, you also have to add me to your quote book, with,

"Damn, baby got back... AND FRONT!"

Guess I'm the only one who liked the second one. I love the WOO-style of film making. Dont be supprised to see white doves in RoP.

But since everyone else is doing it.....

    **SLAM**

Hey look everybody its Howard Stern!

That's hilarious...but they have to be shown in slow-motion. I always think about the scene in "Face Off" where Cage and Travolta's final duel takes place.

Don't worry Brett, I love John Woo style of directing...I'm just not sure how well MI2 and Mission Impossible mesh together as a series; kinda like the change of style in Batman films.

    If it didn't sound like it in my earlier post, I LOVED M:I-2. And heck yeah... I'll do the slow-mo obligate doves scene before laying the smack down on Will! Of course, another obligate Woo-ism is the dual pistols... so can I get two sabers, or two blasters? 8-}
