Title: Those Who Live In Glass Houses
    Genre: Humor
    Timeframe: JA
Characters: Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, and two very embarrassed OC's.
Notes: Written in response to the Quotations Roulette Challenge. I got #131:"Those who live in a glass house should never make out on the couch." -- kid in vader_incarnate's English class. I thought these things were supposed to be doable?! :_| Forgive me; I started writing it and I couldn't stop. The only good thing I can say about it is it's short. And amusing...in a humiliating sort of way. :_|

    -----------------------------------------------------------

    It began innocently enough.

Mari and Ropeth had agreed that, as Mistress and bodyguard, they would have to keep their feelings for one another secret, and likewise, they would have to disregard them. Sure, there was the physical chemistry?no one was more beautiful than the other in both of their minds; all right, they attracted, in all forms of the word, like opposite poles of a magnet.

But that did not change their very different statuses. It did not alter the fact that they both had certain expectations, certain duties, to uphold.

So they sat on the couch in the impressive common room of Mari?s father?s house with two arms? length of empty space between them, each determinedly avoiding the gaze of the other.

?When do you suppose the escorts will arrive?? Mari asked uninterestedly. Her fingers twiddled nervously with those of her other hand.

?Soon, I?m sure. Mistress,? added the bodyguard. His cheeks flushed a crimson hue that was considerably less delicate than his companion?s.

The moments ticked by. Neither was sure of what they should say (though it was painfully apparent to both what they wanted to say). The young Mistress fidgeted restlessly, first with her hands and then with her blouse?s buttons, and then with her yellow-brown tresses. Ropeth, having been trained by the rough hand of Mari?s father?s head of security, was well versed in the art of sitting completely still?but his eyes moved slowly from one corner of the room to the other, taking in every small movement that his charge made.

?And these people?they?re Jedi,? said Mari in a stab at an airy, offhand tone.

?So I?m told, Mistress,? answered Ropeth dutifully.

Silence swooped down eagerly to gather up the room in its clutches; Mari thought wryly that it was almost preferable to the awkward stabs at conversation.

?Ropeth?? The bodyguard looked up slowly, meeting her crystalline stare with practiced obedience. ?Please tell me again?where we?re going??

?We?re to meet your father at his banquet in Thot.? His reply was wooden, but his eyes glistened with light akin to his mistress?s. ?We will be crossing potentially dangerous woodland territory, so your father requested that the Jedi ambassadors accompany us, since we?re on their way. He thought a little extra protection might be?beneficial.?

Mari read the bitterness in his words correctly. ?For what it?s worth,? she said quietly, ?I don?t agree with him.?

A carefully guarded face tipped down to catch her eye. ?I beg your pardon, Mistress??

?You?re the most capable guard we have.? Timidly, she moved a little closer, shrinking the distance between them, reaching up to brush that rebellious lock of hair from his eyes. Her voice trembled slightly as she said, ?I couldn?t possibly trust anyone else as much as I trust you. Not even a Jedi.?

?Two,? corrected Ropeth quietly. He did not look away as he caught her hand and kissed it lightly, a wordless inquiry. She blinked. ?There are two Jedi coming for you, Mistress.?

?Two, twenty?? Mari nodded her head once, resolutely, eyes sparkling. ?It doesn?t make any difference.? When her trusted protector leaned down coyly to touch his lips to hers, she met his attempt with absolute joy. Their kiss was careful and sweet, lasting only for a moment. The two broke off, both looking guilty, but t

I love this. When I first read the title, my naughty little mind did not automatically jump to the idea of stones but more on the order of the quote. Perfect little viggie for the qote.

:D Delightful, Fluff-slayer. I'm endlessly amused by the image of Obi-Wan blushing for someone else instead of himself. Very good job!

    Ahh, young love. [face_love]

This was adorable. Loved Qui-Gon's reasoning about the whole thing. [face_laugh]

    What fun!
I, too, get a kick out of Obi-Wan's embarassment for others.
    Great job!

That was adorable, especially Obi-Wan's reaction to the whole thing. I can just picture him while Qui-Gon reacts with serene Jediness. LOL. Great job.
