Well, to me 320 is short.
But very pleased to hear it is a placeholder. Yay!

Even if it were 320 pages, it's hardly a number to scoff at. Most Legends novels were somewhere between 300 and 400, with anything longer than 400 being a noteworthy exception. Two thirds of the NJO's books were either 300 or 350. A lot can happen in that many pages, and I'd rather have a tightly-plotted book that knows when to wrap up than eighty pages of filler simply for the sake of getting to 400. Calling 320 pages a novella is absurd.

Yeah, I mean, it's one thing to be disappointed with it being shorter than the first Thrawn novel - though I don't actually know the page length off the top of my head because I own it on Kindle - but calling 320 pages 'novella-length' is werd.

Ah, you're still an optimist! You've been here long enough to know how this place really is by now. Ah, optimism.

I didn't say 320 was novella length, anyway I hope it's bigger than the default placeholder.

You guys are missing the important questions here.

How many papyrus scrolls does it take? Also, why aren't Star Wars books offered on papyrus?

Ok, I own up - I brought the word "novella" into this. But neither did I say (or intend to say) 320 pages equals a novella, nor is this a scientific discussion. A pinch of salt, please.
All I was trying to say is that I was hoping for a longer book. So consider this whole novella-thing closed.

Yes and still a Mod no less, clearly you must be an optimist Sinny, but you've also been here long enough to part of the furniture now! DI is still a relative newcomer.

Closed? This is the internet, nothing is ever closed. ;) Still, as a general rule always be wary of book page counts online - case in point, I preordered Sanderson's Arcanum Unbounded and for ages the page count was 400-odd. When the book arrived? 600+ ! So, yeah, things can change but the online info may not reflect it.

Besides page count depends on the format of the book, both hardcover and softcover. The new softcover mass market editions tend to have more pages in them because they contain fewer words/text per page.

Actually JediBen not a newcomer. Was a lurker for years and before that was an active user years ago under a now dormant/defunct account.

[face_laugh] Well, Sinny will appreciate the back-up then!

Now you've got me curious, have we crossed paths previously here?

This, and only two books ever broke 600 pages–only one of them being during Del Rey's publishing, that being Star by Star. Anything above 400 is fantastic and anything above 450 is unusually long, for a SW book (not a bad thing, of course).

I admit my lip twitched wryly when I read this :p

In all seriousness though. Regardless of how long or short it is, so long as it’s good that counts. I’m not even that bothered canon wise since Thrawn in the Thrawn book is clearly different from the Thrawn in Rebels and more in line with old Legends EU, which could not have been highlighted more than Zahn using an old short story for the beginning of the book. To which I’m kind of ambivalent on my views off. Was it cynical ? yes it was, was it completely awful ? No it wasn’t

Just finished the first book! There wasn’t much talk of Thrawn and Anakin durning the Clone Wars. I can’t remember but did Thrawn mention where he meet Anakin in what planet? I hope there is a lot of new surprises

He mentioned Anakin Skywalker by name, but Thrawn didn't say exactly where they had crossed paths? At least I don't recall him saying where.
