I think he respects his opponents and considers them worthy adversaries. War as a sport of gentlebeings with each having an understanding of the cost as well as glories.

Hera considers him the equivalent of a Space Nazi with her as a Space Frenchwoman.

    They're operating from different playbooks.

I always wondered why Twi'leks sounded French in TCW (and then Rebels...) I thought it was because George Lucas wanted to give a sexy/exotic accent to Aayla or something. Because I don't see the link between Aayla and the French resistance...

Nope, that's just a side benefit. ( :p)There's a bunch of behind the scenes stuff about how TCW's Ryloth Trilogy was inspired by WWII France, especially in films.

Waiting for Twi'lek Napoleon -- who is not actually Twi'lek, but comes from a Naboo colony that Ryloth took over.

Well if she was raised by Quinlan Vos, she'd sound Californian.

    Space!Corsica isn't a core world. How uncharacteristic.

Mostly because Naboo is pretty much space Italy. Although I suppose it could be Grizmallt!

Also, Jello basically just thinks of Naboo as a Core World that's not physically in the Core anyway.

It's an awful state where the native people have been displaced by a repressive xenophobic regime!

Sorry, was making a joke. :)

I lived there for a summer with my best friend, Chris, in college. We used to regularly go to a casino boat on a lake.

I consider Phelarion to be a good Space Italy, mainly because I've noticed that the Motti family has Italian-sounding names, and the planet hasn't been shown enough to indicate otherwise.

Naboo was filmed in Italy, but I also get a lot of India vibes, with names like Padme, Sheev, Pooja, Veruna, etc., and their polytheistic religion. There's also the fact that there are Naboo played by South Asians, such as Queen Jamillia. Even the water-dwelling Gungans seem to be named after the Ganga (Ganges) River. But then again, a lot of Padme's costumes are based on old Russian and Mongolian royal outfits. Not India, but also very much not Western Europe.

Like anything in Star Wars, there's a range in influences. The visual style is Italian -- especially in the landscape, art, and architecture. The ceremonial fashion is more steppe -- Russian, Mongolian, and Manchu -- while other fashions are more Italianate and Renaissance. The naming scheme and an one of the actors is South Asian. Lucas himself mentioned Italy and India as influences, as I recall.

I think that's a good deal more than "Conan Antonio Motti."

I don't want anything to be a 1:1 analog, but Naboo seems the closest fit to lots of intentional Italian influences and evocations. And some of it is wider Mediterranean -- there's some of Spain in AOTC for instance, along with the Lake Como and Caserta Palace stuff.

I visited Caserte Palace in Italy, I totally felt into the Naboo Palace. For me, Naboo is Italy. Without pizzas. And with more Gungans...

About accents: I've heard a part of the audiobook of "Thrawn" (and didn't like much the new Thrawn voice, but I'm repeating myself), I wanted to hear his "Chiss accent" at the beginning when he speaks Basic but I realize Marc Thompson didn't really give him any "heavy accent"?

I remember one of the books mentioned Imperial Twi'lek police.

Really wish we could have seen them in rebels, that would have been fun.

Thompson does a spot on Lars Mikkelsen, so the Chiss accent is a Danish accent.

I just finished the audiobook and I have to say that along with Bloodline, I think this might be my favorite new canon novel so far. While I loved the Thrawn storyline, I was surprised that the Gov. Pryce plot was actually my favorite part of the book.

Delayed for a few days between work and bringing home an orphaned kitten that I adopted.

    Chapters 13-15:

Pryce's background is making me want to watch her episodes in Rebels again. So she made herself back into the upper circle in Coruscant. Her meeting with Thrawn was great.

    And I love Juahir.

Thrawn's fast access through the ranks should bother me but it doesn't. It helps that other characters are questioning what the hell is happening, and Thrawn himself almost seems to be questioning it.

And his style--methodical, studious, detailed--is very well portrayed. Military officials and bounty hunters who are going against him really need to drop their "I'm taking him NOW" or "Hold my beer and watch this" ways of doing things.

Putting my tin foil hat on regarding who broke the elevator that was carrying Pryce. Well worth it to get a "one badass woman against six drunk losers" scene.
