Tie Pilot/501st costume thread

Oh, okay (about no difference in costume).
I'll be someone's wingman for the Squint group.
And isn't a TIE bomber a 2-man ship? That's what it said in Vector Prime since Han and Chewie were flying one. You'd better get a partner, Beltayn.

I think this will be cool. We'll have two...*thinks*...flights(?) of three TIE pilots.

And I thought that a "clutch" was what the Chiss use.

 

Yay! I just got a PM from Brad Sherman at OG and they like the pics that I send of my Mara.
They just need some full-length shots to see the boots and kneepads.

I never read 'Vector Prime'. Didn't know Bombers were two-man ships. No biggie though-I'll find one! Until then I guess I'll fly a TIE Interceptor

I can understand them wanting to be able to see the whole costume. So I don't mind. As long as they use the pics that I sent in for posting.
But I didn't give them much choice. The best full-length ones were from Zahn. No plain white background.

It got to the point where I asked for the "Garrison friendly" term for:

"what am I allowed to refer to a bunch of membership-pending friends who are all working together to have a uniform looking TIE Pilot costume, as part of Ohio Garrison? (I'm sick of stepping on toes about this)" (Ohio Garrison boards)

Since they refer to people joining as "recruits"...guess this makes us a training squadron of TIE pilots?

Bret, I'm free on some weeknights, and most fridays...prior to RoP filming. If you want, I can meet you at your house...work on the paint jobs and setup for RoP! Kill 2 rebels with one blaster!

Oh well.
They instructed me to inquire from the main membership guy to find out what would need to be changed. If it's something minor (like I could get a purple blade) I don't mind. But if I have to change the vest and pants, I'm not doing it just to look like Shannon Baska's version. Even Zahn said that she didn't make a very good Mara.
But she is "canon" as far as Lucasfilms are concerned. So I understand 501st's POV.

 

Well that sucks a big bag of donut holes! Yeah I wonder why? Maybe its the lightsaber hilt itself.

 

I would suspect that it's the front of my top. Which would mean a major overhaul!
But there was another girl with pics there that had a zipper.
And I have a REAL hilt, unlike another girl that had the electronic saber in her pics!
I'll have to ask and find out what I would need to change if I were to change anything.

 

Well, more good and bad news.

I got my TIE Fighter helmet just now
But one whole side by that boxy thingie at the base of the helmet by the ear is warped underneath itself.
It's not broken or folded or anything. But it's not right.

I know that we were re-doing part of the helmet molding. Is this a part we're going to re-work anyways, Bret?

 

Okay. Heard back from the guy at 501st.
Basically he doesn't like any of my costume.
Doesn't like the top (which I admit is not relaly canon)
I should have shin pads
I should have gloves ( , I do have gloves and ones that look right!)
The cape is the wrong color and material. (Okay. That one makes me a little mad. I like my cape.)
The lightsaber is all wrong I have to buy one from Parks! That one completely pisses me off! He can go kriff himself! I designed that lightsaber myself and it is NOT CHANGING!
I would even have been willing to work on changing my top for them. But the lightsaber thing really makes me mad! There was a Mara in the membership list that had an ELECTRONIC ONE! And he's crisizing mine!

I really like the guys (an gals) at Ohio Garrison. But I'm really upset about this and don't know that I want to do the TIE thing to be a part of the 501st's little group.
I was better off doing my costuming for my own enjoyment.

Sorry for ranting.

I think I'll still do the TIE thing. But NOT for them. For me and for us
If they like our costumes fine. We'll participate. If not, then screw 'em.
And it doesn't hold us back from hanging with Ohio Garrison anyways.

 

Don't get mad at Brad, he's a great and really nice guy, he help my brother and I get started and guided us through the whole process. He has a tough call to make, based on legion standards and precedents set by votes of the entire Legion (not just Ohio). If you really think you've been wronged get in touch with the Legion Membership officer (although I think he will be even more strict than Bard).

Also some of those Ladies probably already had other costumes and did Mara as a second. Or maybe they did it before they imposed stricter limits after Celebration Two.

Well, having seen the costume...I think Stevie Wonder is a better judge of a costume then whoever made this decision!

Nothing against the electronic lightsabers...but there is nothing (other then personal preference) that says Mara has to have Luke Skywalker's lightsaber; especially while she was the "Emperor's Hand"

They (501st...not so much Ohio Garrison) seem to rest pretty high on their reputation. Parks Sabers...Don Post helmets...they seem very much set as to what is and is not acceptable. And anyone who goes with something less then the most expensive isn't up to 501st "standards"

Kim's Mara costume kicks ###...and no 501st Joan Rivers is gonna tell us otherwise!

At this point, I'm not sure if it's worth putting all the time/effort/and especially (hard-earned) money into costumes...if they are not going to be accepted into 501st. Sure, we can fly with Ohio Garrison...but if 501st is too full of themselves (or something else) to be inclusive to new members!
