    Story on espn.com

Simply amazing ... his knee was worse than just about anyone thought it was. Makes the US Open that much more impressive.

And it was as if a thousand voices of sponsors and TV executives cried out in horror at the same time ...

Thats the exact words I just used talking to Mom when the story broke on TV.

I hope he comes back very strong as well, because it would be a shame for injury to keep him from fulfilling what he clearly has the talent to do.

Once the initial shock of this is over, what will ESPN have to drone on about for the rest of the year?

Well, I am not too surprised. He really looked in pain while he was playing at the US Open. Pretty classy to work through it, not complain about it publicly, and just provide some amazing golf.

That ex-golfer who said he was faking it had better come out and apologise [face_plain]

Kinda looks rather classless now, doesn't it? (saying he was faking)

People like that always look classless in my opinion.

Skip Bayless basically implied the same thing. That he wasn't hurt that bad, and Tiger was just playing it worse then it was. This sucks for Golf, I think they are going to miss Tiger the rest of this year.

Doesn't Skip Bayless pretty much always look like an uninformed, classless hack who is only employed to generate hate e-mail?

Pretty much? No. Take that phrase out, and yes.

*actually, there are very rare occasional times when he doesn't, but these are so few as to not count.

It's disappointing, but he can't risk further injuring himself.

I think everyone is disappointed, except perhaps the other golfers, who will now get--they think--an unobstructed chance at a major. But the PGA and the television networks will be screaming.

Yep I agree with Zaz. Networks are the big losers in this one. I don't feel sorry for them though.

I feel sorry for the sport, because Tiger certainly is a huge popularity boost. I feel sorry for the fans, because they don't get to watch him. More than that, though, I feel sorry for Tiger - I think that ones obvious. But the networks? I'll save that sympathy.

What a beast! To play and win like that! This is sad news, but I hope he'll return stronger than ever. I'm just stunned at Tiger's abilities... amazing.

It'll be interesting to see whether he modifies his power game upon his return. I reckon he could win on most courses without taking a driver out of his bag. Probably not even a wood!

They did a poll on the local radio sport program...would you watch any more golf this year, now that Tiger's out? 49 per cent said no.
