Let's be honest, all that really matters is that the Rey/Kylo/Praetorian guards duel wins the MTV Movie Award for Best Fight.

He certainly deserved one, but I knew there's no way the Academy would nominate him.

So glad John Williams got a nom - one of his best Star Wars scores for sure ,

He's won 5 Oscars before but not since 1994 - he needs another one on the mantel piece :)

The important question is... did it win Best Movie Ever Made? :p

Despite that I dislike the direction of Luke in TLJ, I think Mark would have deserved a nomination. His performance was great.

4 nominations, impressive. TFA received 5, the same no as the whole PT.
SW hasn’t won an Oscar since RotJ. Maybe the drought will be broken this year.

Oof. In the technical categories, it's competing with BR2049 (one of the best technical wonders in a while).
I still believe Adam Driver deserved a Best Supporting nom.

I'd like to see it win for the score at least. It's a tremendous work and Williams deserves the recognition.

I think it's always important to point out that the Academy had altered its soundtrack eligibility rules during the prequel era, otherwise I'm pretty sure Williams would have been nominated for his prequel soundtracks (and might have even won at least one of them, too). At least, that's my two cents.

I love the soundtrack but surely there are too many TFA themes & not quite enough original composition for it to win.

I have a hard time seeing how it beats Blade Runner. But nice that it was nominated.

Unfortunately it probably won't win in any of the categories it's nominated. Shape of Water is likely to take Original Score, Dunkirk for both Sound Editing and Sound Mixing, and War for the Planet of the Apes for Visual Effects.

Or Blade Runner for VFX. I think you’re right. It’s very hard for another entry in a long running series to win these awards. It’s seen as high level work but also more of the same.

Glad to see it was nominated in those categories. I think it's slim to none that it will win in any of those, and I'm fine with that. I think there are more deserving nominees in those categories.

I am glad, but surprised, to see it nominated it for those categories...especially the score. Aside from "The Spark" and "The Last Jedi," I didn't like TLJ score as much as TFA. It was still very good, but I though it was one of Williams' weaker scores.

Wish Mark Hamill and Adam Driver would be rewarded for their Star Wars acting...don't think it'll ever happen though.

Visual effects is probably the only category where I've seen all the nominees. Blade Runner 2019 should win.

I don't think William's score in this one is "original" enough, as much as I liked it. So to me, that leaves the sound categories. I don't know if TLJ can win either of those, but we'll see,

Yeah I can't see the movie winning in any of these categories but being nominated is pretty good.

Hamill should have gotten the nomination slot that Denzel Washington got.

As for going up against Blade Runner 2049, it's pretty tough considering one thing people say over and over is how pretty it is (and it is!).

John Williams hasn't won an Oscar since 1994 (and the fact his prequel scores weren't nominated is super irritating) but I really hope he finally gets one after over 20 years. And it's Star Wars music too!

Hamill and Driver deserved nods. Yedlin for cinematography too but he’s younger.

Del Toro’s Shape of Water cleaned up. Haven’t seen but seems cool.

Congrats on the nominations. I agree MH should have gotten an Oscar nod. Idk has any actors been nominated for a SM before though?
