"We are Imperial Knights. We do our duty by the Emperor and by the Force?no matter the cost."
    - Imperial Knight Sigel Dare

    Bastion (137 ABY)

Ganner the Second wandered about the Imperial Palace keeping his pace slow and calming. To the thousands of security cameras located both obviously and secretly about the palace, he could be construed as lost; which in fact he was. Although his sense of bearing was impeccable, and despite the fact he had grown up within the walls of Bastion, Ganner battled inside with his lack of direction. More accurately, he was confused by the direction that had been presented him.

Much had changed recently, too much. So much it hurt him deeply. But he could right it. Put it all back the way it was, as if nothing had happened; and he would know joy again.

He paused at the intersection of two corridors, and sat down on the ledge of the circular-shaped waterfall that served as the crossroads? central rotary. Many of the cold and functional halls of the Imperial Palace had been decorated by waterfalls; and addition made by the Emperor?s great-grandmother in an attempt to break the monotony of tension within the palace. Ganner was once again in awe of the woman?s foresight as he let his mind drift to the soft, calming sounds of the flowing water. His thoughts flowed through his conversation with his Emperor, Roan Fel. The option and the result seemed clear, but he was afraid his feelings were not.

It was late at night in the Imperial Palace, and pre-dawn was coming quickly. The Emperor would be seeking his decision once the day broke, but Ganner still had no response to give. His answer should have been automatic. His duty as an Imperial Knight dictates he follow his majesties? wishes implicitly as they are the will of the Force. Instead, he accepted the time offered to contemplate his response, which led him to believe Emperor Fel was just as concerned with the consequences as he was.

However, what consequences could there be? The result would only lead to rewards, wouldn?t they? Fel?s argument pushed its way to the forefront of Ganner?s thoughts.

?The war will cease to exist, and all that has been done can be undone. You will pay the ultimate service to your Empire, to its people, and to your Emperor. But your valiance will serve so much more. The Galactic Alliance; including its Jedi will be forever in your debt, despite their grievances with which how we obtained peace.?

It was widely known that the Emperor held all his knights in high esteem, with little or no favoritism ever shown. Because of this belief, Ganner felt himself vexed on why he had been selected. The Emperor?s reasoning was sound, and Ganner did posses skills within the Force that others did not, but that made him no stronger a knight than his brethren. His proficiency with a lightsaber alone paled in comparison to those Knights selected as Royal bodyguards. With that thought in mind, how was he expected to accomplish such an illogical feat? If the task being pressed upon him hadn?t come from Emperor Fel himself, Ganner would have declared it foolish.

As his thoughts dwelled, his confusion and irritation built. The mission was certainly a desperate one, no matter how promising the Emperor made it sound. If it were

First, I love the idea of two IKs named Ganner! Now awesome is that! And can't wait to learn more about Ganner Riggans. o_O

I hate that he lost Elke, but glad he is serving her memory by going after Krayt. [face_mischief]

Great interaction with Krieg and very true to that character. [face_peace]

And a cathy title and that's always a plus.

    Can't wait for moer. :)

I really like the angle you?re going with here in showing the fallout from one of the earliest losses in Legacy, of Elke Vetter, and that there is someone who will attempt to avenge her death. @};- Looking forward to what happens next with Ganner (with his very cool name ;)) Riggons.

If only I knew more about the comics, I'd know how much of a suicide commando this is. [face_blush]

    But Ganner Krieg! Yay! :D
Poor other Ganner. Wondering if he's expendable. It's not a nice feeling.:(

Are you going to write more?

All your characters and motivations in here seem so real! And well done keeping us on the edge of our chairs wondering just what the mission would be.

I echo the sentiment: please write more of this!
