I have not read that yet, but when I was in 8th grade, a friend and I made a movie called Superman III before the movie actually came out. I used to scratch on the film and then color it in with a red ink pen to make the lasers come out of his eyes.

Ah...the good old days of doing REAL rotoscoping!

    My hand still hurts! ;)

Hate to burst your theory, Gare, but REAL rotocoping involved doing hand-by-hand masking and animating of the visual effects animation, and then compositing them together on an OPTICAL PRINTER.

I know this because I was an assistant (i.e. grunt) rotoscope artist on a couple of films after I graduated from college - Honey, I Blew Up The Kid and Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey. :D

Thos optical printers were HUGE, and cost at least $100,000.00.

Thank goodness we don't have myriad threads with titles like,

'What is the best type of needle to scrath my film for the lightsabre fx?'

Hey Ryan, looks like you need to improve your method to allow for the "Needle Saber" look. :D
