Amph To The Wonder

Anybody seen it yet? It's Terrance Malick's new flick.

I absolutely loved this one. Thought it was brilliant. And it kind of made me want to re-watch Tree of Life, to give it a second chance. What are your thoughts?

i don't think i'm going to see it. not anytime soon. i don't really want to see ben affleck trying to be poetic with his physicality or whatever.

it's not a matter of hating him, it's a matter of having to watch as he falls flat on his face in the attempt to undergo malickization. i like the guy for the most part. i do not want him to be terrible.

i'm going to make a film called "to the wonder years".

 

My usual criterion for judging whether someone is worth listening to is whether or not they love 2001, but I think Days of Heaven could fill that role almost as well.

Of course I'll see it; he's the best filmmaker alive.

My only caveat: As is the case with Bergman, I wish I had experienced Malick when I still harbored religious faith/spirituality. As rewarding as his films are, my relatively muted cosmology has prevented me from experiencing the transcendental joy and agony that Dostoevsky once engendered.

 

Yeah I've gotta say, I watched To The Wonder Sunday morning before church, and by the time the movie was over I felt like I had already gone to church.
