    Oh yeah.

I'm a huge fan of GRAW 1 and 2 and still play them occasionally, so I'm looking forward to seeing how this game incorporates the future tech demonstrated in the trailer. I just hope it doesn't stray too far from reality, as the realistic tech in GRAW is one of the series' strong points.

Saw the trailer earlier today. You actually think it doesn't stray too far from reality? All that's missing are energy weapons or blasters!

I just hope they give the same focus to single player that was in the GRAW series.

GRAW 2 had one of the best single-player campaigns I've ever seen in a generally-thought-of-as-mulitplayer-focused-realistic military tacticle shooter.

That moment in GRAW 2 when you first see Juarez in the distance, fires burning all over the city, was so epic.

The live action trailer I saw today made me think they're basically in Stark Industries suits, minus the giant suits with rockets. Although, I do like the idea of active camo. The shoulder rockets, however, are a bit much.

They just looked like shoulder mounted Javelins to me. The cloaking is probably a bit far-fetched but it is something that's being researched. I'm sure the overall game will be more realistic than MW2 at least. ;)

I've never been huge on GR, but I admit that WAS an awesome trailer, and I do hope this game turns out well.

To be honest, the active camouflage is about twenty or thirty years from being realized.

Besides the shoulder rockets, the trailer was actually pretty tame in terms of some of the things the US Army is planning to be able to utilize in the next few decades. Think Starship Troopers meets Predator and you've basically got the idea; everything from active camo to powered armor has gotten at least looked at to some extent.

    edit:

    A link about active camouflage.

    Oh, we're dead

Yes. I think the idea of active camo isn't outlandish. But the idea of soldiers running around with shoulder mounted rockets, the kind that can devastate a tank, is a bit much.

    [image=http://i44.tinypic.com/w7k13r.jpg]? :p

Seriously though, it's just a smaller version of that. What's so outlandish about it?

I suppose the outlandish part is just how much smaller it is, and not just the projectile but the launcher itself is smaller than the actual projectile of the RPG-7 you posted. That and the way they loop up and then come back down, I find it hard to believe they'd pack a big enough punch to penetrate that tanks armour (and that's not even mentioning, that if our weapons are that advanced, surely armour is leaps and bounds from where it is today as well)

as stated above, i think it's just the compact size thats hard to swallow. a little mount pops up and delivers enough wallop to take out a fully armored tank? bah. if this plays anything like past Ghost Recons, i think i'll take a pass. i just never appreciated the shooting mechanic.

A shaped charge isn't very big. All it has to do is pierce the armour and hit ammo or fuel, and then bam goes the tank. I think it's entirely possible the delivery method will shrink.

Oh I agree, eventually it will. I suppose it really depends on just how 'future soldier' this game is. Have they nailed it to a specific year yet?

According to the Official PlayStation magazine, it takes place 10-15 years after the first GRAW, so that'd put it in 2023-2028. I'm guessing military technology will be pretty advanced by then.

Aren't there are already tiny anti-tank munitions? I'm pretty sure there are cluster bombs filled with sub-munitions that can seek out an individual tank and fire a small slug of molten copper through the top. You don't even need to hit the ammo or fuel, you just need to spray the crew with molten metal.

I never enjoyed the Ghost Recon series that much. Upon reviewing its history the other night on Wiki, I remembered why: the AI in earlier games sucked arse. The squad had no idea what the word cover meant and, while they were awfully efficient at taking down tangos half a mile away, they couldn't be bothered to dodge a grenade hurled right in front of them. It's been awhile since then and AI has gotten a bit smarter. But it'd definitely be sweeter if coop play was enabled for the single player game.

I believe you mean the CBU-97. Explosive formed projectiles can indeed be quite small.

Certainly looking forward to this, though I do need to go back and finish the other Ghost Recon games. Kept restarting from the last checkpoint every time somebody in the squad took a hit, so I never really got very far. They kept dying if I didn't, though...

I finished the second GRAW a while ago, now I'm plaything through the first and I'm finding it a lot harder, and I'm only on Normal. :_|

Yeah they are quite different. The PC ones are first person right? I'm playing the 360 ones.

yeah. the pc is amazingly more difficult, i think. although it does allow near total tactical control over your squadmates, as opposed to a simple recon or loud mode and GO THERE and REGROUP commands.
