I deliberately didn't include comic strips since I consider them different mediums to an extent, and I didn't include manga characters because I didn't want to have to do the extra work since I usually keep them separate. Otherwise I probably would have included Calvin and Snoopy in my #1 and 2 spots respectively, and Jughead might have made it too, not to mention Hobbes and Charlie Brown and NLinus and Jon Arbuckle and Mr. Weatherbee and grah. And that's still not even including the manga!

Calvin and hobbes and peanuts only came out (or mostly for the peanuts part) as albums here , Like I have an English language album full of peanuts and they actually do have a story line or full page comics...

PPOR. Sounds familiar in a deja vu kind of way, but I've been back to page 11 and couldn't find the post.
I've been reading comics (granted on and off) for over 20 years and I had trouble getting to 10. It made me stop to wonder why and I've got two theories... 1. So many comics are never ending. There are characters I really like that I didn't feel I could list because I've read so little of their overall, multi-decade, run (like Hulk). 2. I'll get flamed for this but comics are more about story than character. What I mean is we tend to think about story arcs (Dark Phoenix, Grant M's stint on whatever book, etc) in a way that we obviously don't with books, movies, etc.
I think that's the reason I barely have any superheroes on my list. Most of these characters have gone through tens of writers and their characterization has varied wildly. So sure, I can like Wolverine (I do), but he could never make my top 10.
1) Superman 2) The Punisher 3) Batman 4) Spider Jerusalem 5) Abby Chase 6) Judge Dredd 7) Ghost Rider (Dan Ketch) 8) Wolverine 9) Daredevil 10) Ulic Qel-Droma
