Topps Goes Wide with Episode II

I got the promo card today at my local comic shop. I'm going to love this set

 

If I'm not wrong on this I think there will be two diffrent box's with this set. One for retail and one for dealers. Retail will have not as many packs as the dealers. I think that the difference is 10 to 12 packs. I know that they did this with the first set because I did not get a complete set.

 

That's pretty common thing, Hobby store boxes having 36 packs and retail boxes having 24. There won't be any difference between the cards & autographs though as far as hobby vs. retail goes (as far as I know anyway).

 

StarWarsCards.Net News Update on AOTC WV Promos...nice large scans of both promos.

 

AOTC WV Boxes went up for presale on StarWarsCards.net yesterday. $57 per box, or $447 per case (8 boxes). In the news announcment she says that the autographs will probably be around 25 actors.

Other than Yoda, the list is filled with lame background characters. Where is Anakin & Obi-Wan?! And how about Christopher Lee? I could care less about getting Plo Koon's autograph or Dexter's. BTW, which promo card was included with the September issue of Diamond Previews?

 

There's only one promo card for this set.

It seems that most often autographs are for background or second tier characters, there are a few exceptions, but look at the SW Evolution set, most were background or second tier, though there were a few of the main/popular characters with that set.

 

There's only one US promo, P1, availabe in various magazines including NSU, Diamond Previews, and the current Insider.

The UK promo, S1, is pretty much the same card, but it's only availble in England.

I don't mind the background characters having auto cards...with no other chase cards for this set, getting a complete one of these autos should be relatively easy compared to the Evolution set. Besides certain characters being more popular with collectors (ie Vader & Fett from Evolution going for 3 times as much as the equally as common Sebulba & Watto autographs), most if not all of these signers will probably do the same number of cards (1000 each I'm guessing). I wish Topps would try an average of 2 autos per box, but that seems unlikely at this point.

Unlike the Evolution set, I won't be in a hurry to try and complete my auto set...a year later most of the autographs are going for 1/2 of what I paid last year, so I'm going to try the patient route this time.

 

I'm content with the autographs this time. I just hope that none of them are limited so some silly number like 100... again.

 

I guess it's alright but I was really hoping for chrome or embosed cards like we got when the Ep 1 set. But I'll still buy them.

 

[wishful thinking] I'm hoping that the lack of other chase cards indicates that Topps' SW department is hording it's cash for an AOTC 3Di set. [/wishful thinking]

 

I agree so much!

I really wish there were some other chase cards in this set though. I'm sure I will have horrible luck with the auto and I won't have enough money for even a box of them.

 

Update:
Get a pack of exclusive Attack of the Clones widescreen movie cards when you pre-order the DVD or VHS online with Wal-Mart. Each pack contains five new cards and is shipped with the order.

mmmmmm why didn't this up?

 

The Daylight savings time changeover was causing some new posts to be an hour behind some not so new posts.

Other notes about the set:

The Clonetrooper autograph will be distributed as a case card, and not in the boxes like the rest of the autographs. Since most shops buy these cards by the case (8 boxes -> hobby shops, not retail stores), this autograph shouldn't be very hard or expensive to get.

 

I noticed when I was posting this that at lesat half of the card set is the Arena Battle.

 

my next door neighbor who is a star wars fan too ... got all of the OT and E1 cards for free!! like i'm not lying when i say about 40 boxes full of them... so we have EVERY card.... but nothing to do w/ them.hahah

I got my Walmat promo card set with my AOTC DVD the other day, and they're really well done. Can't wait for the rest of the set, which should be released in less than 2 weeks. woo-hoo!
