Tour of Middle-Earth: Questions, Answers, and more.

[blockquote]Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
    [/blockquote]

This is the thread for illiterate, slow people who can?t quite grasp the story entirely. Feel free to comment and discuss Lord of the Rings. And I can answer any questions no matter how easy or hard.

    Here's one for you....

What was the bet Legolas and Gimli made before the battle of Helm's Deep? Tell me, what the contest was as well as the rewards for the winner and the loss for the loser.

Yes, that is true, he has been a homosexual for over 50 years now. But are you such a bigot that you look down upon another fellow man just because of his sexuality? He?s a very good Shakespearean actor You should be open minded, and love everyone, no matter what the sin.

Oh sure, ask a question from the book? I meant this thread for stupid questions Alex would ask. ;) Okay... They fight to see who can kill the most Orcs, (Gimli Wins by 1)

No, I was right...if you read my posts correctly, admit it! I was right for once on the matter of LOTR. Anyway, I have no more questions as of the moment. None that I can think of, unless...
    WAIT!!
    I do have one...
"How did Saruoman become White?" "If by death, like Gandalf then how did he die?"

"How did Saruman become White?" "If by death, like Gandalf then how did he die?"

The Wizards are Istari, sent down from a higher being (which I will not say for it will confuse you), they were to help people in the Third Age to fight against Sauron, even though Saruman joined up with Saruman, but that?s another story.

Each Istari had his own color and grade within their order. Saruman the White was the eldest and the leader of the White Council, second was Gandalf the Grey. Plus Radagast the Brown? with others that are not named.

So to answer your question, Saruman never died to become white, he was white the whole time in Middle-Earth? Since his betrayal, he was cast from the order, and banished from Valinor (complicated dude). Gandalf the Grey was just simply promoted after proving himself, and needing to take the place of Saruman the White? he was sent back until his task was complete.

This should be intersting...maybe I do have a question that you both can test your skills on.
What's the meaning of the book to todays standards?

Depends... Tolkien never intended it to be allegory, it just turned out that way. A lot of his Catholic teachings are placed in the book... the book can be compared to any modern day problems.
