The2ndQuest, I don't think Link would count since he is a video game character and this is for TV and Movie characters unless there's a tv or movie with him in it that I don't know about. I'm assuming the Mario you are nominating is from the movie or that tv show. correct?

 

Well, I could only imagine that the only reason nobody else has a problem with it is because there's no problem with it. Of course, if Conor or others decide there is, I'm cool with that. But I think it would take a great deal longer to get up to 128 characters if we did it that way.

 

Yeah, as I was reading this thread today, I was thinking the same thing. I mean, why even have two tournaments if we're going to include everyone from the last one? Seems pretty silly to include robots and space soldiers in this tourney. We might as well just invite anyone from any genre in, and call it "Favorite Fiction Character".

 

I agree with The2ndQuest. There is no point in having two tournaments if you are putting the same characters in them both. It's like the people who didn't get their favourite scifi characters to win the last tournament are just putting them in this one. Kirk and the Firefly characters are solid scifi. No magic or mystism about them. I don't know enough about the Autobots to call that one though.

 

I'm conferring with the SFF: Films and TV Mods on this matter. From the sound of things it seems I might be cutting certain nominations. I can see where Star Trek, Firefly/Serenity are purely sci fi, but what other ones do you think should be allowed, not allowed? Please give reasons why as well.

I just forgot something I should have mentioned in the 1st post of the thread. If at all possible post a picture of the character and a link to a site describing the character. (i.e. Wikipedia)

 

2ndQuest is correct. We have two tournaments here. One just completed and that handled all Sci-Fi characters. This tournament will handle Fantasy only characters. However, make no mistake about it, some characters are arguably in both categories so we might have a few cross overs from the Sci-Fi tournament. I leave that up to Jedi_Master_Conor's discretion to discern what constitutes Fantasy and what doesn't. Fantasy only characters. We're leaving Sci-Fi out of this one.

The debate between what is Sci-Fi, what is Fantasy and what's the difference will be here forever. It's been a thorn in my back a few times. We're going to have to leave it up to the discretion of the host of this tournament to decide if a character fits the Fantasy genre characteristics. Should be pretty straight forward though. Is the character in a movie or show that's main theme involves fantastic elements? If so, they're in. Star Trek, Firefly, even Battlestar Galactica are Sci-Fi. Yeah, you could make an argument that they could technically be Fantasy, but let's be practical. What's the main theme of the movie or TV show? Is it Sci-fi or is it Fantasy? Base your fantasy-genre character nominations off of that; the main genre of the film or show.

 

Alrighty then. I just wasn't sure about Link. I never saw the LOZ cartoon, but all is well.
