Out of your 8 nominations, 2 I absolutely agree with. 2 I think are pretty good. The other 4 are good scores, but out of their league here for a tournament with only 128 nominations.

Well, I was under the impression this was a "favorite" film scores, not "best" film scores tournament.

And anyway, I doubt many here have heard a lot of my favorite scores, so they'll be weeded out pretty quickly once the voting begins.

    EDIT:
Missed this post, but yes, what he said.

Well alot of my favorites happen to be the best. ;) But there are some that are considered classics that I really don't care for. Though I respect them. I won't mention them in fear that someone might nominate them though.

Fair enough. But, I just hope this doesn't become a thread where only the so-called "classics" can be considered for greatness. That makes for a fairly stale tournament, IMO, when all the usual suspects are nominated and nothing outside of the "classic" sphere is given a chance.

To please you, for my next 4 picks I will choose lesser known scores. Though they're not unknown to film music buffs, they're certainly not obvious favorites to win.

I've rearranged the nominees in the initial post into so they are alphabetical by composer.

If you nominated four yesterday or today, you can now nominate a second four scores.

So I can nominate four more now eh?

The Red Violin - John Corigliano
Requiem For A Dream - Clint Mansell
    Godzilla - Akira Ifukube
    Krull - James Horner

What happens when the board turns midnight, can I nominate four more?

Alexander Nevsky by Sergei Prokofeiv (That should balance out my nomination for Gladiator.:p)

    Gettysburg by Randy Edelman

North by Northwest by Bernard Herrmann

    Patton by Jerry Goldsmith

EDIT: Crap, Nevsky is already nominated. To redeem myself, yet again, I'll nominated Basil Poledouris' The Hunt for Red October.

You may nominate a total of eight scores until Friday at 7:00 pm board-time (PDT). Then I'll see where we are at, and remaining spots can be filled up four at a time, but in non-consecutive posts.

That brings us to 99 scores so far.

I'm wondering what Tim would nominate if he logged on now... a Harry Potter... Goldsmith - maybe First Contact?... hmmm. :p

Ned Washington isn't credited on Pinocchio by imdb.com.

I think 128 will suffice. There are a few famous scores from the AFI top 25 not in here, and a few personal favorites that are not either, but not enough to justify 256.

Most of those composers are still represented, of course.

I'm sure the gods will forgive us. Unless Goldsmith and Herrmann have taken over the great sound stage in the sky...they'd let us have it...

HLS, The Last Crusade is in the tournament.

I've got a bracket generated (courtesy random.org) and I'll post the bracket ASAP.

edit: OK, the random generation worked quite well. The only rule I had going in was that all first-round matchups would be between different composers. There were only two conflicts (both John Williams). I generated a second random list, and simply switched the first two that came up with the conflicts.

I'll post the bracket in a minute or so, and the voting can begin!
