First off, I'd like to thank DVEditor, ObiWan506, Moleman and malkie for letting me host this tournament and for lending all their input into its creation. :)

Now, I'd like to welcome you all to the first tournament for the Science Fiction and Fantasy: Films and Television forum! Here we will boldly go where no JC tournament has gone before... by deciding on the greatest episode in scifi/fantasy television history.

    Rules and Guidelines

    • There will be 64 entries in the tournament.

    • The format will follow the template set by the Census tournaments... though you can expect at least one thing that will set it apart from what's come before. If you've never participated in a tournament, check out the current one to familiarize yourself with the concept.

    • You can nominate up to four episodes at a time, but please do not post twice in a row. This will give more people a chance to participate in the nomination process.

    • Please steer clear of episodes from obscure shows. Basically, if the index doesn't have a thread on the show, don't bother.

    • You can nominate more than one episode from a particular show, but try not to go overboard. Spread the love around as much as you can.

    • When nominating, please provide the series name and episode name clearly. And if possible, also provide the season in which the episode debuted.

    • Please do not post spoilers from the episode you are nominating. If you want to post a brief description, please use black highlight-to-read text.

    • If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me or one of the forum mods.

I'm sure we'll have a lot of fun here. Let the nominating begin! :D

Lost: Exodus, Part 2 (season 1, episode 24). The entire extended season finale is awesome, but especially the latter part when they find out who really is in the hatch.

Babylon 5: War Without End, Part 2 (season 3, ep 17). Answers a lot of questions, but leaves even more uncertainties behind.

Babylon 5: Sleeping in Light (season 5, ep 24) An awesome finale to a stunning show.

Battlestar Galactica: Pegasus (season 2, ep 10) I love this one for its human conflict and the absolutely wonderfully crazy Admiral Cain.

Going with the best Smallville episode I can remember (haven't watched it in a while):

    Smallville - Commencement (Season 4?)

Babylon 5: Severed Dreams (the show that made people go "wait, they CAN'T do that!"...about four times)

Babylon 5: Z'ha'dum (one of the best cliffhanger finales ever, with a lot of heart and dread)

Babylon 5: Sleeping Light (if you don't cry, you have no soul)

Farscape: Wolf In Sheep's Clothing (Into the Lion's Den, part 2)

Farscape deserves more episode nominations, but ah well- does Peacekeeper Wars count? ::)

Although I'd rather not have miniseries or TV movies in the tournament, if you divided it into Part I and Part II, I would allow it.

Walking Distance - The Twilight Zone, Season One

In my opinion, the finest half hour of television ever, in any genre.

Beyond the Sea - The X-Files, Season One

Brad Dourif gives his finest performance as a psychic on row and Gillian Anderson knocks one out of the park as the daughter grieving the loss of her father. The human response to tragedy boiled down to two people; every emotion imaginable plays out here and while it may seem that this is a tight forty-five minutes, it is in fact, one of the most expansive television episodes ever.

One Breath - The X-Files, Season Two

The human experience filtered through the paranormal.

Jose Chung's From Outer Space - The X-Files, Season Three

Blisteringly funny parody of everything that has to do with sci-fi.

    >> if you divided it into Part I and Part II, I would allow it.<<

    In that case-

Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars, part 2 ("A monumental black hole. A swirling headstone marking the spot where we used to live and play and slaughter the innocent.", "Wormhole weapons do not make peace. Wormhole weapons don't even make war. They make total destruction, annihilation, armageddon. People make peace."; the heroic charge following the birth still gives me chills)

Stargate SG-1: Window of Opportunity (hilarious timeloop goodness)

Stargate SG-1: Lost City (epic, with O'Neill coolness)

Stargate SG-1: Reckoning, part 2 (epic, with Daniel coolness)

Buffy: The Vampire Slayer Graduation, Part II Season Three finalie. It's moving on on a number of levels.

Charmed: All Hell Breaks Loose. Season Three finalie. As a Charmed fan watching the media at that time, you knew what was coming, but you couldn't help watching it all come crashing down.

Hercules: The Legendary Journeys: The Warrior Princess Season One, where we meet Xena :)

    I believe that is 64. :)

Actually I noticed the B5 episode "Sleeping in Light" was nominated twice. So if that means we really have 63 eps. then I nominate Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman: Barbarians at the Planet, from Season One. :)
