Tournament: Greatest movies of the Sci-Fi / Fantasy Genre (WINNER ANNOUNCED!)

Aliens is the more complete film. We already knew FOTR was only "part 1". The Aliens franchise could have comfortably ended with the second film. That was the main reason my vote went to Aliens.

I have so many Alien action figures based off this film. Such a great toy line. My old basement used to have about five couches that we didn't use. So I would always combine them together and build a huge cave. Then I would hide all the aliens inside it and add technical looking things (like part of my Battleship game) to make it look like an abandoned base that was taken over by aliens. Then I would put a strobe light at the end of it to give them eerie lighting effect before sending in the marines!


The only thing I didn't have at the time was the music. But now I have it all... Damn I wish my nephews lived closer! I want to play Aliens!

I really wish they'd bring on a movie about the Colonial Marines. With or without Aliens and Predators, there's so much potential with them as a character group. Why can't Hollywood see that? With all of the crap remakes and revisits they do, they can't go back to that universe? What's up with that?


Maybe set it up 10-20 years after Aliens with Michael Biehn playing Gunnery Sergeant Hicks. Or Command Sergeant Major Hicks. Nearing retirement, he takes his Battalion on one last op...

Makes me want to actually go and watch that movie now.

I voted for FotR, but as I say, how can you quibble with Aliens being called the greatest? It's so darn brilliant in every way.

Thanks! I think we all had a little bit of fun as we went through this bracket by bracket. I will post the voting results for each round when I compile all of them together into one consolidated post.

And yes, there are talks for another tournament in the very near future and it will cover a different subject for voting. I won't be the one hosting the next one though. You guys wore me out.

Oh yeah. But I guess I put that out of my brain because I thought the movie sucked so bad that it deserved to be ignored. Never even saw Aliens IV. //shrugs//

Even if Hicks is dead, there is still a lot of potential there... even if it's in my own mind.

 

Yeah they went out like punks in Alien 3.

 

Since when did a little thing like death stop a character from returning in a sci-fi or fantasy movie?



I totally agree with the outcome of this tournament. There's no one here who hasn't seen Aliens, and I doubt there isn't anyone who has seen the movie that wasn't in some way inspired to become a Space Marine, or wanted a pulse rifle prop for christmas.

The movie is perfect in terms of storyline, action, gore, and some truely badass aliens.

I'm all for a trip to Zeta Reticuli if you are.

Yeah, me too. I love the quadrilogy set they gave us. The behind the scenes documentaries are truly some of the best ever made for a film series. I mean they talk about everything.
