Tournament Suggestion Thread

a. All-Time Movies (except Star Wars films)- plus I also believe the the LOTR movies would also have to be excluded because they are also extremely popular on these boards and would be the clear favorites)

 

I'd go with A, but only if it's a 128 film tourney. If you're looking for a smaller tournament, I'd go with C.

As for excluding certain films... I can understand excluding SW, because this is the JC. But if you exclude the LOTR films, where do you draw the line? Should the Indiana Jones films be excluded? How about The Princess Bride or The Matrix? I don't think it'll be that much fun without any of the "big guns".

 

I agree with limiting the exclusions to Star Wars.

How about this:

A tournament of 128 for the greatest film of all time (excluding Star Wars)?

 

^Yeah, that sounds good. Also, what do we plan on doing about series (such as Indiana Jones)? I think we should just count a series as one movie.

Ornen, I don't think it would be fair to have an entire series of films go against just one film. If this tournament goes to 128, there will be more than enough room for both Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade, if someone wants to nominate them.

 

Yes, each film stands on its own. The Godfather and The Godfather Part II are two separate films.
As are ROTLA and IJATLC, and FOTR and TTT.

I just wanted to get past April 1 and my banner contest before starting up.

Start thinking of films to nominate.

I hope to start a thread to take nominations in a few days.

 

How will that work?

I would suggest, rather than starting with a list of films, starting from scratch and allowing everyone to nominate four films. This would allow 32 people to be involved in the process, which I think is a reasonable number to expect to be interested enough to take part.

 

^That's what we're going to do. Soon as someone posts the topic for nominations.

 

I'd like to see a favorite dog breed tournament. Just something different.

 

I think another music tournament would be cool for the next one.

Best Band of All Time
Best Album of All Time
Greatest Musician of All Time
Best Song of All Time

Something like that. Also, "Best Villain of All Time" could be a cool tournament.

 

Best Star Wars Reference.

OK, after a highly fun Movies Tournament this spring, it's time to start thinking about a Summer Tournament.

I'm leaning towards something with music.

How about best album of all-time?

 

Music is a dandy choice... but I'd rather go with the artist category myself.

I believe that is the way it should be.

 

I have to agree with best artist should be the next tournament. It would be a nice switch from movies to go to music. Just my opinion though.

 

I think Artists would be best, though individual songs aren't a bad idea.

 

I'm with best Artist, as well...

 

Best musical artist would be a good Tournament.
