Tournament Suggestion Thread

I think it is too much to seperate them. I could see Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker, but not 3 different choices for one man.

I certainly don't think the Emperor should be divided more than twice, if that. Emperor and Palpatine should be the max choices for him.

 

Personally, I wouldn't divide them up at all. It's "favorite character", not "favorite actor". Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader are the same person, and thus shouldn't be separated into two different characters. You wouldn't separate PT Yoda and OT Yoda, but that's exactly what you would be doing if you separate Anakin and Vader. And that's another thing, if you do split up Anakin and Vader, then where do you draw the line? What about PT Obi-Wan and OT Obi-Wan? No, if we're soing to do this tournament we'd better at least pretend to have a little faith in the continuity of the saga. The only alternative I could see is doing two separate tournaments, PT and OT, but again that strikes me as unnecessary.

 

I agree with deltron_zero.

I mean, what's next? Yoda (CGI) or Yoda (puppet)? Jabba (OT) or Jabba (PT)? Boba Fett (kid) or Boba Fett (in suit)? And if he does appear: Tarkin?

The list would be endless.

 

I think separating Anakin and Darth Vader would be okay, but that's where I'd draw the line.

Oh, and where exactly are these tournaments held? I've been outta the loop for a while.

Yeah, true. If we start splitting characters up, it would become far too messy.

So, are we allowing mojor characters like Vader, Obi-Wan and etc? Becouse if so this is just going to be another sure deal. And sure deals = boring tournaments.

 

We have to allow any characters, otherwise it opens up a whole new can of worms and this tournament will never get started. But I don't see this as anywhere near as sure a deal as the cartoons or rock artists tournaments... some of the early round matchups might be, but the main characters seem evenly matched to me and I know that they each have devoted followings.

I would suggest starting the tournament like we have in the past, with 16 or 24 characters who are central to the saga, then allowing everyone to nominate their two (or maybe three) favorite characters until we get to 64.

 

Ehhhhh, I'm still not too keen on characters. You can't really have a 'best' character as voted by the people, because then it's a popularity contest. Like say, with LotR, tons of characters are wiser and more powerful than Legolas, but he'd be voted as the best because of the Orlando groupies. The same could happen here.

Now, if it's a 'most favorite' character poll, then this makes more sense.

 

Well yeah, clearly that's what it would be. All of these tournaments are really just popularity contests if you think about it.

 

How bout a Comic book character tournament for the next one?

 

I'm thinking it would be cool to run a mini-tournament (16 entires) between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Any ideas for a theme?

 

A tournament of animals.

 

Like Rancor vs. Wampa and Acklay vs. Nexu?

 

What about a best of non-SW sci-fi for one? Off the top of my head I can think of:
Star Trek
Aliens
Predator
Terminator
Space 1999
Lost in Space
Babylon 5
We can even open it up to literature and include the Hitchhiker trilogy.

I mean if we had each as it's own then we'd also have to separate movies from TV and we'd end up with (doing quick math here) seven entries all by themselves. And would the first movie be separate from the other TOS movies?

I think that we should do one involving EU characters.

For example: Two divisions of mainly movie characters (Luke, Han, Leia, etc) and characters who either weren't in the movies or who were only in there for a few seconds and have a big role in the EU (Wedge, Janson from movie cameos, and Mara and Anakin Solo strait from the EU)

 

How about a tournament for our favorite directors?

I think we should do a tourny with the top 100 films of all time (according to the American Film Institute, just because the list is nice and all ready set up)

If you want to go with the 64 thing, you could always just take the top 64.
