Tournament Suggestion Thread

It's certainly not the most original idea, but what about a best actor/actress tournament?

 

Not that I've participated before but I would like too , I like the animals idea (make sure my Reek is in their!!!! )

What about a mini-favorite holiday foods?

1) Sweet potatoes
2) Stuffing
3) Dinner roles
4) Turkey
5) Ham
6) Green Bean and Fried Onion casserole
7) Pecan Pie
8) Apple Pie
9) Pumpkin Pie
10) Roast Beef
11) Yorkshire Pudding
12) Cranberry Sauce (Whole Berry)
13) Cranberry Sauce (Jellied)
14) Turkey Gravy

OK, that about does it. Now I just have to print that out and I've got my shopping list

 

I like the SW creatures idea and TV shows.

 

What about games? What is your favorite video game?

 

There's so many to choose from though. Maybe we could do favorite game from each system, starting with NES and working up? That'd give us a bunch of tournaments in a row without needing to fish for more ideas.

 

Or perhaps have a favorite RPG (Hint ) game and do it by genre instead of system.

 

Genre works too. Although, it'd be too tempting for me to stab, repeatedly, those who vote for any FF past 6 with the exception of 10.

 

I guess I won't be stabbed since 10 is my favorite RPG.

 

Yes, you are saved from stabbage. 7, 8, and to some extent 9 are utterly horrid, vapid, empty RPGs that out of slick graphics and marketing have a strong sheep fanbase and it's disgusting.

I think the tournament a few times ago was one Video Games

 

We've done the video games and films tournaments.

So far we've had:

1st: Video Games
2nd: Beatles Songs
3rd: Cartoons
4th: Films (non-SW)
5th: Rock Artists
6th: SW Characters

I think TV shows might be a good one for the next big (field of 64) tourney.

But in the meantime...

We're gonna have a quick one for the Thanksgiving weekend.

 

I like FF 9.

Although it might be hard to work out, how about best moments in film? I think that might be an interesting one.

How does everyone feel about TV shows?

And if so, so we lump all decades and genres together?

 

That's a tough one, isn't it? We already did cartoons, so does that mean that The Simpsons will be discluded from this tournament. I made a simular suggestion a while ago, but you could do something like have two different brackets, live-action comedy and live-action drama, then have the two winners battle it out for the right to take on The Simpsons for all the marbles.

I think that might be the best way to go, but you still leave out a bunch of shows... game shows, talk shows, variety shows, etc. Perhaps another bracket could be added of these miscellaneous shows, and then in the end you could have a "final four" semifinal round with The Simpsons and the three other winners.

You could allow each person nominating to nominate 1 show for each of the three new brackets, and each bracket could have 32 shows.

I will put in another bid for Sci Fi series. This could cover TV, movies or even video games. That would allow for a wide range of starting contenders.

EDIT: Let me change that to non-SW genres since we already know that SW is #1. This would be competition for the #2 spot.

 

How about your favorite Brady from the Brady Bunch (and you'd have to include Tiger the dog)!

But why should the Simpsons be excluded from the tourney and automatically end up in the final 2? I say let it start over from scratch and compete against a bunch of non-cartoon shows. Things just might be different.

As for a Sci-Fi genre, I'm not sure games should be included in that bracket. I just don't think one can compare a game to a movie or tv show, it is a totally different medium.

 

I just thought separating shows into brackets like that and then having the winners face off would be a neat, tidy and fun way of going about it. And since we already did the "cartoons bracket", The Simpsons would already be in the final 4. But if you want to throw all the shows together that's fine too, and in that case you really would have to put The Simpsons in there (and any other cartoons that anyone wanted to nominate). That just seems a bit messy, somewhat redundant, and not quite as cool to me.

I really didn't mean to kill this with too many crazy ideas. We should just do the "anything goes" TV shows tourney.

 

Sorry. This is on my list of "things to do".

Hopefully we'll get one started soon.
