What do you think about doing the "Songs of the Beatles" again with different matchups? Maybe it's too soon, but I was thinking it would be kind of cool if it was an annual event.

Maybe Movies of the '80s would be a pretty cool tourney. Of course, you'd have to exclude the SW movies, but it would be really cool for those of us who want '80s nostalgia.

That would be cool, but you should narrow that down to your top 16 or 24 so that other people can make some nominations.

64 is a good number to start with, but we could make it 128. :)

That's a pretty huge list. I think if we did guitarists that a "mini-tournament" format would work better (i.e. 16 or 32).

Actually, I was thinking of a mini-tournament for the next one, no matter what the subject. Movies of the 1980s sounds cool, but would that mean including ESB & ROTJ? Also, remember that Raiders won the overall film tourney last year.

I wonder if we could do something SW-releated, like droids or vehicles? Favorite space vehicle, perhaps?

Well for movies of the '80s, you have such a widelist, even if you include Indy, it'll produce some kind of different result. And yes, I would exclude SW movies if that tournament were to be done.

I'd have no problem doing a SW vehicles/ships mini-tourney, that would be cool.

OK, any ideas for a summer tournament?

    Should it be SW-related?

Movies again, perhaps by era or genre?

Music? Best song or album of the 20th century?

My suggestion is to do another "characters" tournament. You've already done SW characters... How about a comic book character tournament? Or maybe a TV character tournament? Or how about a non-SW movie characters tourney? Any one of these would do pretty well, I suspect.

Well, it's been a year and a half since we did the Beatles tourney.

    Maybe a Beatles album mini-tourney?

Well, that could have been fun for a short little tourney, but now I think it's been so long that everyone's probably ready for a full tournament. I'm still pushing for Beatles songs again, with different brackets than last time. But Gabe's guitarists idea could be fun too. Maybe start a poll to decide, you could throw in a couple other options as well (villains, comic book characters, novels of the 20th century, etc...).

Greatest advertising icon characters . . . not endorsers, but characters. For instance, you wouldn't do Jordan representing Nike, but you could use Mars Blackman for Nike.

    Geico Gecko
    Mr. Clean
    Mr. Whipple
    "Where the Beef?" Lady
    Budweiser Frogs
"I've Fallen and I can't Get Up" Lady
    Snap, Crackle, Pop
    Bartyles and James boys
    Ronald McDonald

I'm sure we could come up with enough for at least a mini-tourney.

i think gabe's 'best guitarists' idea is excellent...

a couple small omissions, which i am sure were unintentional... Marc Bolan (T.Rex) and Alex Lifeson (RUSH).

    ;)

How about a new Beatles song tourney with a twist -- we'll include any solo songs from John, Paul, George or Ringo?

You know, throw in "Imagine" and "My Sweet Lord" and "Temporary Secretary"?

OK, I'm kidding about "Temporary Secretary" (found on the McCartney II album). :p But maybe "Band On The Run".

Heck, we could easily run one of just the solo songs.

I love the idea of including post-Beatles stuff. If we're going to do that, perhaps we could expand the field to 128 songs and do four matchups per day for the first round? Or is that too ambitious?

i cannot believe that i overlooked the fact that Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath) also is not on that list of best guitarists ever...

i feel like i've failed myself in some way.

I copied and pasted that list, I had a few broken fingers at the time, didn't feel like typing too much. :p

Anyways, looks like a Beatles tourney's been set on, let's get cooking.

i'm all for not against a beatles song tournament! and i think throwing in solo stuff is excellent - it'll only prove what i've thought all along... RINGO is the superior song writer!!! ha ha!
