    JohnWilliams,

You say "good riddance to the PT" and that is fine. But answer this for me honestly: Why do you come to these PT forums to post unless it's to argue?

Do you get pleasure in being confrontational? Do you like to rain on people's parade that do like these PT movies?

What is the point of lurking and posting in forums for movies that you clearly dislike.

I'm not trying to flame you and I don't want to get into a heated discussion, so don't take it that way but I really wanna hear an explanation.

    JohnWilliams,

Let me answer this and JW can correct me if I am wrong. These are discussion forums and JW comes in here to discuss things. Discussion is pointless without opposing views so people like JW who dislike much of TPM provide the opposing view. If one pressed him (via PM perhaps) I am sure he could come up with stuff he likes about TPM.

Do you get pleasure in being confrontational? Do you like to rain on people's parade that do like these PT movies?

This right here is why we stick to discussing the films in this forum and not the posters. Comments like this are just gonna lead to bad things.

What is the point of lurking and posting in forums for movies that you clearly dislike.

Disliking parts of TPM or even being disappointed in it as a whole does not disqualify someone from posting here. After all, I have major issues with ROTJ and bash it frequently, yet I still own it, discuss it and post about it when I get the chance. Do I not belong in a forum dedicated to it?

So long as everyone remains inside the TOS, does not flame, does not bait, does not troll and does not spam, they are free to post as they wish. They do not have to love TPM to post here.

Thanks strilo. There is nothing for me to add, other than if you have any more questions, obi wan jabronie, of a more personal nature, feel free to PM me and I can answer them. I'll even admit to you which TPM scene I find the more erotic. (kidding ;))

I did indeed. $318,981,000 in 31 days. That is impressive. This film must have incredibly good word of mouth.

    Very nice. Domestic:

    1 Titanic.................................................$600,788,188
    2 Star Wars.............................................$460,998,007
    3 E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial........................$435,110,554
    4 The Phantom Menace.............................$431,088,297
    5 Spider-Man............................................$403,706,375
6 Lord of the Rings: Return of the King........$361,118,934
    7 Jurassic Park..........................................$357,067,947
8 The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers......$341,786,758
    9 Finding Nemo.........................................$339,714,978
    10 Forrest Gump........................................$329,694,499
    11 The Lion King.......................................$328,541,776
    12 Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.........$317,575,550

I could see the possibility of ROTK getting a slight surge from the Oscars if it wins anything big. I doubt it will be enough for it to break $400 million in the US but it's already beat the first two LOTR films and has done extremely well.

It will probably finish off at $380 million domestic. The DVD is coming out earlier this year, on May 25th, so the theatrical run will be shorter.

It's amazing how well Titanic did. TPM has amazing numbers too but that can be expected for the most anticipated sequel ever.

Why is it that The Phantom Menace did so well in the USA? It's pretty much the last bastion of BO dominance in the world. In Australia it's number 7, in England it's number 8 in France it's at 6 and in Germany it's at number 13.

I'm pretty sure it was already announced.

I'm not sure if that's the exact date, but that sounds about right.

If you do a search on google there are a ton of sites that say May 25th. I'm 99.9% sure that at least a semi-official announcement from somebody to do with Lord of the Rings was made.

But I also read on a website that said on March 8th will be the official announcement of it's DVD release on May 25th.

Yeah, New Line did say the specs will be released on March 8th, and pretty much every retailer has been notified in advance that May 25th will be the theatrical DVD's release date. The strong rumor going around now is that the EE will hit in September instead of November. I posted a link to that article a week ago in the Bashers' Sanctuary.

Here is the R2 cover. Should be the same for R1:

Yah there's a popup when you go to this page of the official site that confirms the March 8th announcement. If they release ROTK early and ROTK:EE early I will be really happy.

Ugh. While I am not surprised ROTK beat TPM I have to say compared to ROTK TPM was almost flawless. Honestly, ROTK had some inexcuseable flaws.

Oh well, the double standart made LOTR so "special". Too bad SW has no double standart. The media and the critics like bashing Lucas and his movies that are visually ahead of our time, though storywise they use classic themes.

Oh well, just my two cents. I doubt ROTS will do as well as ROTK or Spiderman. Oh well, I still HOPE it will beat them.
