Traders of Mos Espa

The objective of the game is simple: to make a lot of money! You make money by trading, that is, buying and selling goods. Buy low and sell high, and profits will go up. And don't worry, you won't need a degree in accounting to play: I will be doing all the math and posting the numbers here. All the hard work will be done for you! Just decide which and how many of each type of goods you wish to buy or sell. Here are the type of goods available for trading:

1. Scrap metal
2. Blue milk
3. Bantha fur
4. Power converters
5. Death stix

The prices of goods will fluctuate. Experiment!


Locations

Players are part of a caravan moving through the deserts of Tatooine. Each turn, the caravan moves automatically to a new destination, where players can carry out their business. Every destination carries all kinds of goods, but the price of the goods will vary between each location, and each visit to each one. Some locations tend to offer ceratin goods at a lower or higher price than other locations, and it is up to the players to find out and experiment. I wouldn't want to spoil the fun of the game for you, right? Currently, the destinations are:

1. Mos Espa
2. Mos Eisley
3. Toshi Station


Turns

Once the caravan has moved into one of these locations, a turn begins. I will post the list of goods and the current prices (in credits) of each one at that location. Each player can then perform a Buy action and a Sell action in any order. To perform these actions, players only need to decide which types of goods they are buying or selling and how many, and post it here on this Thread. A Turn will end when all players have carried out their Buy and Sell actions, OR after three (3) days have passed.

Example: the caravan moves into Mos Espa. Prices for this turn will be:
1. Scrap metal (Buy: 86 / Sell: 75)
2. Blue milk (Buy: 103 / Sell: 91)
3. Bantha fur (Buy: 112 / Sell: 98)
4. Power converters (Buy: 290 / Sell: 275)
5. Death stix (Buy: 319 / Sell: 304)


Buy Action

You can buy goods in a Buy action. You can buy goods of any type that you like, but the amount of goods that you can carry is determined by the maximum carrying capacity of your vehicle. Players can also skip a Buy action if they wish.

Example: Fatto the Toydarian has 5,000 credits. In his Buy action, he decides to buy 20 Scrap metal (86 each = 1,720 total) and 10 Blue milk (103 each = 1,030 total). He pays a total of 2,750 credits for the 30 goods. He has a Swoop vehicle (Carrying capacity 30), so he cannot buy any more goods until he sells some. Fatto's credits are now at 2,250.


Sell Action

In the Sell action you can sell goods at the current location for the price shown on the chart. Just specify which type of goods, and how many of each, you wish to sell. Players can also decide to skip a Sell action.

Example: Fatto the Toydarian has 20 Bantha fur and 10 Power converters. He decides to sell 10 Bantha fur (98 each = 980 total) and all 10 Power converters (275 each = 2,750 total). Fatto gets a total of 3,730 credits for selling the 20 goods.


Vehicles

Every player starts the game with a Swoop in which to travel and carry goods. At any point during a turn, you can decide to sell your current vehicle for half its original cost, and buy a new one. Be advised, any goods that were held on the vehicle you are selling will be lost, so make sure you sell all your cargo before buying a new vehicle. Lastly, you may never have more than one vehicle at a time, and you cannot travel through the desert sands without a vehicle! Here are the vehicles, their prices, and their carrying capacity of goods:

1. Swoop - Price: 5,000 | Carrying capacity: 30
2. Landspeeder - Price: 10,000 | Carrying capacity: 50
3. Sandcrawler - Price: 20,000 | Carryi

A Turn will end when all players have carried out their Buy and Sell actions, OR after three (3) days have passed.

I would actually leave this for the players to decide. If we make it too short, it will be over before players make the most out of their money, and if we make it too long I imagine players will just get tired. Any suggestions?

I suggest 12 turns for the duration of the game. Also, if a player is not interested in buying or selling anything during a turn, they should announce it. That way, we know when everyone has finished with their transactions, so that the game can proceed without having to wait until the three days of the turn are over.

 

Let's try 15 turns. If all players decide they want to cut the game short at any point, we can reduce it. Or later on if all players agree to play beyond the 15th turn, we can also do that. Also, yes, players who wish to do nothing on a turn should post saying they wish to Pass. With all that said, let us begin the first Turn!

What to do now
Every player has a Swoop vehicle and 5,000 credits. Nobody has any goods to Sell, so you should try to Buy some goods. Each player should now post how many of each type of goods he wants to buy. I will substract the total amount from your starting cash and tell you the remaining amount! Remember, you cannot carry more than 30 goods, so choose wisely! Once each player has taken his action, or if not then by Friday afternoon, the Turn will be over. If anybody still has any questions about the game, now would be the time to ask. Good luck!
